Neither has played indoors yet, but looking at their outdoor hard court starts, Raducanu’s run in New York gives her some weight here, with Hercog only won one main draw match since the third round of the French Open. She did, however, drop down to an ITF event after she too went out of Indian Wells in her opener, so has a little more matches in her legs.
Playing Styles & Prediction
This will be a test for Raducanu, with some added pressure being on her father’s home soil, and the weight of expectation. She was fairly pragmatic after her loss in Indian Wells and will be working with Johanna Konta’s former coach Esteban Carril on a trial basis.
She has the firepower to overcome Hercog, but she will be up against a tour veteran who may just be a little match-sharper at the moment, after Raducanu withdraw from the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last week.
On paper she should have the power to take this on, but her rustiness might see her having to scrap for it.
Prediction: Raducanu in three sets.
