The highly anticipated encounter between Emma Raducanu and legend of the sport Serena Williams suffered a blow when it was postponed until Tuesday, prompting concerns about Williams’ fitness as she heads into a final US Open.

Surprisingly (given how few matches Williams has played this year) she outweighs Raducanu quite significantly when it comes to saving break points, and edges her on converting them too.

If this match goes ahead, it will be a unique opportunity for Raducanu to play the greatest tennis player of current times.
As reported by the WTA Tour in Toronto: “To see her around in this U.S. swing is really inspiring,” Raducanu said in Toronto. “She keeps playing because she obviously loves the game. And I think that longevity of a career is something that a lot of the players, and me especially, we aspire to achieve as well.”
It has been a tough season though for Raducanu after setting the US courts alight last year. Williams will not want to go out as someone who is passing on a torch to the new generation, and she will want to prove a point.
Raducanu will need to keep Williams on her toes. On her comeback – at times she still looked step slow, and got by with the potency of her serving but Raducanu can certainly match her, and Williams has improved since then.
But Raducanu has proved she can be a big match player – and let’s be honest, they don’t come any bigger than this!
