MONTREAL, CANADA – Johanna Konta will hope to have recovered from a left knee injury as she opens up against Karolina Muchova.

British No. 1 Johanna Konta’s year has been frustrating, to say the least. Just as it seemed she was gaining some confidence with a first time win in six attempts over Elina Svitolina, she continued to have issues with a left knee injury and had to had a walkover to Coco Gauff into the Montreal quarter-finals.

She will take on Czech Karolina Muchova in her opener in Cincinnati.

Given the stop-start nature of Konta’s win and the fact she has barely played, it is no surprise that her stats do not match up to the more consistent Muchova. Konta has had two straight first round exits since reaching the quarter-finals in 2017.

 

Playing Styles & Prediction

Muchova can clobber the ball with quite some weight so Konta can expect to be matched toe-to-toe with heavy hitting from the back of the court. The Czech has a solid all-court game and moreover she is consistent.

That is something that Konta has missed certainly this season, and this is a tough opener. It all comes down to how her knee is holding up, and whether she can get her own game firing.

Prediction: Muchova in three sets.
