Any hopes that British No. 1 Johanna Konta could snap her losing streak to the feisty Czech Barbora Strycova were dealt an early blow as Konta went down an early break 1-3 and despite having chances to get the break back, could not quite get over line, losing her own serve once more as the Czech wrapped up the first set.

However all was not immediately lost as she seemed to get her eye in at the start of the second set, breaking Strycova twice to level things up, winning her first set against the Czech.

The decider started out as a nervy affair with three straight breaks of serve, with Strycova taking the lead as she became the first to hold. The set ended as it has started as Strycova broke for a 5-2 lead, only for Konta to put on one last flurry of resistance, breaking Strycova as she tried to serve for the match.

It was, however, the briefest of respites, despite saving one match point, Strycova made it three from three.
