ACAPULCO, MEXICO – Katie Boulter is the first of the Brits this week in action, as she takes on Conny Perrin in her opener in Acapulco.

While many who were in Bath will remember the dramatics that went with Johanna Konta’s win to send Britain into the World Group II play-off, let’s not forget that at each stage, Katie Boulter set up the team with opening wins each time.

Boulter brings a big game to the court, and a good all round temperament to go with an aggressive baseline game. She has a big first serve but maybe searches for the forehand a little too much at times – when it goes off the boil she finds herself in trouble.

That being said, she had to go the distance twice in her Fed Cup heroics and she showed tremendous resolve, which she will need against this gritty qualifier.

Perrin describes herself as having a pretty complete game and has a decent doubles pedigree, so expect a lot of variety coming from the Swiss. Perhaps though what she has missed is general consistency which sees her operating across both the main tour and ITF levels.

Boulter has been soaking up her experience at the main tour levels like a sponge, and has been rewarded by leaping up the rankings, and she is able to enjoy much more exposure in the tour and that confidence saw her pull out some great wins in Bath in February.

It would be surprising to see her struggle in this opener, and her draw definitely gets harder with some equally solid opposition in her half of the draw.

Prediction: Boulter in straight sets.
