Katie Boulter v Jasmine Paolini | Boulter leads H2H 1-0 (ITF)

Since sitting out around six months on the tour after sustaining a stress fracture in her back during her Fed Cup heroics for Great Britain, the come-back has been slow and steady. Katie Boulter returned in a series of ITF events at the end of last year and after a slow start to the year, she most recently reached the semi-final in the Grenoble ITF tournament this month.

Over the net from her will be Jasmine Paolini – She broke into the Top 100 at the end of last year, and leapfrogged Camila Giorgi to become the Italian No. 1 player. Like most Italians, she grew up on clay, but has developed an explosive all-court game and as such has improved on hardcourts.

She can be nippy around the court, and has good anticipation, but her serve is an area of weakness. Boulter on the other hand has a big first serve which she should use to full effect to gain some free points. Boulter is a pretty steady player, and her temperament serves her well when she is being challenged, but as she wants to go to the forehand as much as possible, she can leave herself vulnerable.

Outside of Fed Cup, Paolini has only one win to her name in her first match in Shenzhen at the start of the season, so in all likelihood her confidence will be a lot lower than Boulter, coming in off an ITF semi-final.

Still, this is unlikely to be the kind of scenario where Boulter will be able to simply hit her off the court.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.

Boulter & Paolini are scheduled on Cancha 2 at 4pm (10pm GMT)
