The third round continues and a blockbuster battle emerges between Elena Rybakina and Caroline Wozniacki. In what first appeared to be a routine draw for Rybakina, the Kazakh just squeezed through against the unseeded German, Laura Siegemund. After winning the first set comfortably 6-3, Rybakina became too complacent in the second leading to Siegemund taking the set 6-3. The fourth seed then upped her level to seal her place in the third round to face Wozniacki.

The former world number one, who announced her retirement back in 2020, has exceeded expectations and has played some incredible tennis to reach the third round at SW19. Wozniacki received a wildcard for the tournament and has made full use of her chance at hand. The Dane faced a tough test in the second round in the 30th seed, Leylah Fernandez. A well-matched contest came to a deciding third set in which both players gave it their all to fight another day. Wozniacki came out on top and took the last set to make it a 6-3 2-6 7-5 victory for the wildcard.

Wozniacki will likely aim to extend rallies and force Rybakina into uncomfortable positions, while Rybakina will look to dictate play with her power and precision.

Prediction: Rybakina in three sets.

Ons Jabeur will face Elina Svitolina in the third round at Wimbledon in what will be a huge battle between two fierce competitors. Jabeur has flown out of the blocks in her first two rounds, sustaining a very high level of tennis throughout her games. The tenth seed faced the young American qualifier Robin Montgomery in her last match, but the differing levels in experience at this level was evident and the 2023 SW19 finalist moved onto the next round with a 6-1 7-5 victory.

Svitolina’s journey to the third round has proved to be a little more difficult in comparison, with a small wobble in the first round. The Ukrainian lost a close tiebreak in the second set to Magda Linette but remained resolute to win the third.

Up next for the 2023 Wimbledon semi-finalist was Jule Niemeier which caused next to no problems for Svitolina as she passed by the German in a straight set 6-3 6-4 smashing. She will need all the form and confidence she can get to take down Jabeur who needs no introduction in the competitor she is on the grass court.

Svitolina leads the head-head 3-1 but a match is yet to be played on the grass surface where Jabeur is known to excel. With both players in excellent form and motivated to advance deep into the tournament, this match promises to deliver high drama and superb tennis.

Prediction: Jabeur in three sets.

Taylor Fritz [12] v Alejandro Tabilo [23] H2H: Fritz leads 2-0

Taylor Fritz is set to play Alejandro Tabilo in the third round at Wimbledon in what is sure to be a thrilling encounter. Fritz’s second round tie was to Arthur Rinderknech who beat former world number four Kei Nishikori in five sets in the first round. The American put in a solid performance winning in four sets against the Frenchman to move onto the third round.

Tabilo’s second round clash was a tighter affair, going all the way to five sets with the Italian Flavio Cobolli. The Chilean initially won the first two sets, both going to close tiebreaks. Cobolli then fought back and won the next two sets 6-4 all for the 23rd seed to pick up where he began to take the fifth 6-4.

This matchup could see Fritz trying to assert his dominance early with powerful serves and forehand winners, seeking to shorten points and prevent Tabilo from finding his rhythm. Tabilo, on the other hand, will likely aim to extend rallies and force Fritz into uncomfortable positions, using his court coverage and tactical play to counterpunch the American.

Prediction: Fritz in five sets.
