Carlos Alcaraz just about made it through his third-round match, prevailing in a long and hard five setter against the 29th seed American, Frances Tiafoe. The 2023 champion hasn’t played the most convincing campaign so far and will be looking to pick up his form as the tournament goes on. The Spaniard will certainly be feeling it in the legs going into his next clash, but as we should all know by now the guy is next to superhuman with a tennis racquet in his hand.
Up next is Ugo Humbert, an aggressive baseliner who has played some impressive tennis at SW19 over the last week. After a tough five setter against Alexander Shevchenko in the first round, the 16th seed has played his way into form and looked a real threat. To meet Alcaraz in the fourth round, Humbert dispatched Brandon Nakashima in the third round in a 7-6 3-6 7-6 7-6 battle where he had to dig deep and stay composed to pull through.
The Frenchman is yet to make it into the second week of a Grand Slam, his closest attempt was at Wimbledon in 2019 where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the round of 16. This will no doubt give him extra motivation heading into his game against the defending champion.
This will be the pair’s first ever meeting and is sure to be a good one. Both players have an electrifying feel to their play and like to pound the ball with their groundstrokes. Alcaraz will have to work his way around Humbert’s aggressive left hander which could cause problems for the third seed on his backhand wing.
Prediction: Alcaraz in four sets.

Jasmine Paolini took down an in-form Bianca Andreescu in a straight set 7-6 6-1 victory in the third round. The first set was neck and neck with both players’ service game being broken and eventually going to a tiebreak where the Italian came out on top. The following set was dominated by the seventh seed in which she played some of her finest tennis in the tournament so far.
As for Madison Keys, the American is yet to drop a set in her campaign despite facing a series of tough opponents including the 18th seed Marta Kostyuk in the third round. Keys won this match 6-4 6-3 to take her into the next round.
Wimbledon seems to be Keys’ kryptonite as she is yet to make it past the quarter-final stage, compared to her longer runs at the other three. However, her fast start at the All-English Tennis Club in 2024 has made her a serious threat with the potential of knocking out some of the biggest names in the game.
The first meeting between these two competitors came back in Dubai last year where Keys blasted past Paolini in a 6-1 6-1 win. The Italian’s game was far from what it is now, and with a considerable gain in confidence she has risen up the rankings on the tour. Both players are under fine form, setting their game up to be exciting and full of action.
Prediction: Paolini in three sets.
Emma Navarro [19] v Coco Gauff [2] | H2H & Match Fundamentals
Emma Navarro [19] v Coco Gauff [2] | H2H: Guaff leads 1-0 |

Emma Navarro will face her American compatriot Coco Gauff in the fourth round. The 19th seed made it through a difficult test in the last round, winning in three sets against Diana Shnaider. The Charleston native, known for her consistency and resilience, has transitioned smoothly to the grass, showcasing her adaptability. This has already become Navarro’s deepest run at Wimbledon and will be looking to extend it even further.
Gauff has excelled on tour this season reaching a career high of number two in the world. The young American has continued her form into the grass court slam where she has been an extremely formidable opponent and is a definite favourite for the title. So far, she has conquered each round with ease and is yet to drop a set.
The US Open champion faced Sonay Kartal in the third round and came out on top to win 6-4 6-0 in stylish fashion. Navarro admittedly is a far harder test and won’t make it easy for Gauff to move on.
Expect an engaging contest with Gauff likely trying to impose her game early with aggressive plays and quick points. Navarro, on the other hand, will look to extend rallies and capitalize on any mistakes from Gauff. The grass surface will favour Gauff’s powerful groundstrokes and serve, but Navarro’s tactical approach and ability to absorb pressure could create a tightly contested match.
Prediction: Gauff in straight sets.
