Stefanos Tsitsipas [4] v Nick Kyrgios H2H & Match Fundamentals
Stefanos Tsitsipas [4] v Nick Kyrgios | H2H: Kyrgios leads 3-1 |
Wimbledon 2022 | London, England |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: £120,0000 |
Third on Court One (17:00 BST) | BBC Sport |
Stefanos Tsitsipas has slowly been getting better and more comfortable on the grass, impressing with his accurate serving as well as producing effective patterns of play. The Mallorca champion scored an impressive win over Jordan Thompson in his previous match to send a big statement that he is ready to go deep at SW19. Can Tsitsipas make his big slam breakthrough?
A blockbuster match awaits Tsitsipas next as he takes on the eccentric Nick Kyrgios. The Australian has mostly made headlines off the court so far with his attitude and arguments with crowds. However Kyrgios proved in his last match against Filip Krajinovic that when dialled-in, he can be pretty much unstoppable. Who knows what Kyrgios will turn up for the rest of the tournament but one thing is assured and that is entertainment and if he keeps producing a high level then he can give anyone a tough match.
If Kyrgios produces a high level of tennis then he should come through this match just like he did in Halle a couple of weeks ago. However if Kyrgios loses focus, concentration and his mind then Tsitsipas has the quality to punish him unlike his last couple of opponents. One thing is guaranteed and that’s late-night drama at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Kyrgios in four sets.
Paula Badosa [4] v Petra Kvitova [25] H2H & Match Fundamentals
Paula Badosa [4] v Petra Kvitova [25] | H2H: Kvitova leads 1-0 |
Wimbledon 2022 | London, England |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: £120,000 |
Second on Centre Court (15:00 BST) | BBC Sport |
After recent poor performances, it will be a welcome surprise to Paula Badosa that she’s in the third round of Wimbledon with relative ease. The Spaniard reached the second week last year at SW19 and is looking to do the same and with the power as well as all-court game she’s produced so far then there is no reason why she can’t do the same this year.
One person who will have a big say in that though is former champion Petra Kvitova who for a set and three quarters was unstoppable against Ana Bogdan. Despite a late slip-up Kvitova has proved that when on form, nobody can touch her especially on this surface. Having won the Eastbourne title last week, Kvitova now enters with red-hot form and is looking to recapture her grand slam winning glory days.
If Kvitova can consistently keep up her high level of big-hitting and big-serving then she is the overwhelming favourite against Badosa on this surface. However if Kvitova is inconsistent then the Spaniard will punish her especially on the slower version of these grass courts.
Prediction: Kvitova in straight sets.
Coco Gauff [11] v Amanda Anisimova [20] H2H & Match Fundamentals
Coco Gauff [11] v Amanda Anisimova [20] | H2H: Gauff leads 1-0 |
Wimbledon 2022 | London, England |
Grass (O) | Prize Money: £120,000 |
First on Centre Court (13:30 BST) | BBC Sport |
Coco Gauff is heading into the third round of Wimbledon with form on her side having reached the final of Roland Garros. Although it hasn’t been easy for the American so far at SW19, Gauff has proved she can come through tough battles as well become dominant in matches. The 11th seed firmly believes that this is her time and she will look to prove it over the course of the tournament.
A tough test awaits Gauff next in the form of compatriot and in-form Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova has had a massive breakthrough in consistency this season on all surfaces and although grass is her weakest surfaces, she has done exactly what is required of her so far. There will be no pressure on Anisimova heading into this match and will look to make a big breakthrough on grass at Wimbledon.
This match will see two of the biggest hitters of the women’s game collide as both are in-form and love to dictate matches. There may be a few unforced errors but also winners in this contest as hard-hitting tennis is the name of the day. The grass courts suit Gauff’s game more and she has the edge heading into this exciting match-up.
Prediction: Gauff in three sets.
