In one of her best performances of the season, Paula Badosa why she shouldn’t be written off on any surface with the Spaniard producing an impressive performance to defeat former champion Petra Kvitova in straight sets. Now the fourth seed is into the last 16 for a second successive year and is looking to make a deep grand slam run. As high profile seeds continue to fall at Wimbledon, will this be Badosa’s year to win her maiden slam?

Before thinking about winning the title Badosa will have to take on former champion Simona Halep who is on a ten match winning streak at Wimbledon having not competed in the two years since winning the title in 2019. Halep has strolled through the opening week and is going under the radar as a contender to win the title here with her gritty baseline game causing opponents problems. Now Halep’s looking to take her gradual improvement of confidence into the second week.

This should be an entertaining contest with Badosa’s power up against Halep’s counter-punching abilities. The Spaniard has improved with every match and it is expected that she will push Halep to her limits. However the Romanian’s confidence mixed with accurate serving puts her as slight favourite here to make the last eight.

Prediction: Halep in three sets

After tour four set matches to start the tournament, Rafael Nadal produced a highly impressive performance as he outclassed Lorenzo Sonego on Saturday to reach the last 16. It’s Nadal’s fourth consecutive last 16 performance at Wimbledon and Nadal would love nothing more than to match his previous two performances by reaching the semi-finals here. As the draw opens up Nadal will fancy his chances of being in Friday’s last four showdown.

Next up for Nadal is the player he played in the third round of Roland Garros in the form of Botic Van De Zandschulp. The Dutchman earned a big win over Richard Gasquet in the last round and his game is made for grass with that big serve as well as his powerful groundstrokes causing plenty of players problems. Now Van De Zandschulp looks to earn a shock result and continue his consistent results at grand slams.

This will be a tough test of Nadal’s returning ability with Van De Zandschulp proving to serve consistently high percentages at this year’s tournament. The Spaniard should get through this match but it won’t be without its scares as the Dutchman will be confident of causing a shock based on Nadal’s first two rounds.

Prediction: Nadal in four sets.

An emotional victory for Amanda Anisimova on Saturday as she defeated Roland Garros finalist Coco Gauff in three impressive sets. The American has had an impressively consistent season and is looking to go deep in a grand slam once again. As opportunities continue to arise, can Anisimova be the one constant in this women’s tournament.

Anisimova’s next match won’t be easy though as she takes on Harmony Tan who is becoming one of the few unexpected players in the last 16. The Frenchwoman edged past Serena Williams in the opening round and produced a dominant display against Katie Boulter to reach the second week. The Frenchwoman’s impressive mixture of power and slice will continue to cause problems as the second week goes on.

This could be quite a tricky test for Anisimova who generally doesn’t do that well against players who can mix up the tempo of the rallies. Tan will cause the American problems with the mixture of slice and power with this match expecting to have several momentum swings. This is a close match to call but Tan may cause an upset here given the tactical match-up.

Prediction: Tan in three sets.
