Playing styles and prediction

Kubler has now qualified for the second grand slam in a row and enters this opening round match having won 12 of his last 13 matches. The Australian has a big serve and a gritty baseline game to match which can cause opponents trouble and once confidence is high can be hard to beat.

Evans will need to use his slice well and continue to be smart with his serve and return. The Brit knows that if he produces a good level then he should win here but any lapses of concentration and Kubler will pounce and make it very difficult for him. As long as Evans doesn’t allow the Australian time to swing the momentum of the match then the Brit should advance.

Prediction: Evans in four sets.
