Novak Djokovic had to overcome a tough test from Tim Van Rijthoven and the Centre Court roof curfew to reach the quarter-finals for a 13th time in his career. Now the world number one is looking to continue his dominant form at Wimbledon as he searches for more history and a seventh Wimbledon title. After the match Djokovic told the press that he was happy with his performance against Van Rijthoven:
“But overall I think I’ve played very well, very solid from back of the court. I got into his service rhythm, started reading his serve better in the third and fourth sets,” Djokovic said.
“I just really am pleased with the way I closed out the match. I lost the rhythm on my serve a little bit towards the end of the match, but overall just a good fight and really challenging match for me on grass.”
However a big challenge awaits Djokovic in the last eight in the form of Italian powerhouse Jannik Sinner. Sinner came into Wimbledon having never won a main draw match on grass but now he is into the quarter-finals having beaten the likes of Stan Wawrinka, John Isner and Carlos Alcaraz on his way there. After his match against Alcaraz, Sinner praised his consistency at grand slams:
“For sure I showed also this year until now I got consistency. I made many quarterfinals, many round of 16s,” Sinner said.
“I think I improved also physically. If you go Grand Slam after Grand Slam and you go in the second week, you have to be good also physically. I think every single part of my game, to be honest. We try to give our best, especially in the practice sessions. I think I’m putting a lot of effort and right mentality in it.”
This will be Djokovic’s toughest test yet and will be an intense match from the beginning with Sinner looking to consistently hit with ferocity forcing the defensive errors from Djokovic. The Serb will look to neutralise Sinner’s power by putting him in uncomfortable errors in the court and making him cover a lot of ground. It will be a tight contest but one Djokovic should come through and become a better player heading into the semi-finals.
Prediction: Djokovic in four sets
Ons Jabeur [3] v Marie Bouzkova H2H & Match Fundamentals

Another test passed for Ons Jabeur who showed her fighting qualities in her tight straight sets win over Elise Mertens. The Tunisian’s quest to become the first African player to reach the Wimbledon final gets stronger with each passing week and now with Jelena Ostapenko’s exit remains the only seed left in the bottom half of the draw. Can she hold her nerve and live up to expectations?
Another test awaits in the last eight as she takes on Marie Bouzkova who has been in great form so far in this tournament. Bouzkova defeated seventh seed Danielle Collins and Alison Riske on her way to the last 16 before defeating Bad Homburg champion Caroline Garcia in the last round. Big weapons and intelligent court awareness, Bouzkova will look to cause problems and make a big breakthrough at Wimbledon.
This will be a big test of Jabeur’s Wimbledon against a confident opponent who has many ways of defeating opponents. The Tunisian will have to serve at her best and be consistent with her tactics as she looks to outsmart Bouzkova. This could be a very tight couple of sets but it should be sets that Jabeur should take and seal her spot in the final four.
Prediction: Jabeur in straight sets
Jule Niemeier v Tatjana Maria H2H & Match Fundamentals
Jule Niemeier v Tatjana Maria | H2H: First Meeting |

When predicting who may reach the last eight from the bottom quarter of the draw nobody expected an all-German clash or Jule Niemeier to blitz her way through the opening four rounds. The world number 97 silenced the Centre Court crowd against Heather Watson with her big-serving and effective all-court game. Now Niemeier has the opportunity of a lifetime to reach her first grand slam semi-final.
Someone who also has the same dream as Niemeier is Tatjana Maria who at 34 years old is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time. The German stunned Ostapenko with her smart style of tennis mixed with serving and there won’t be many players who will want to play Maria at this stage. A relaxed mentality and with nothing to lose, Maria’s experienced head will be dangerous at this stage of the tournament.
This promises to be an unpredictable and tense affair with so much on the line for both players. Both German’s will look to serve big with precision and effectiveness while trying to settle early nerves. This could be an edgy affair and that favours Maria who will use her experience to her advantage but this could go the distance with a semi-final spot up for grabs.
Prediction: Maria in three sets.
