Evans has served efficiently and effectively so far in this grass court season and will need to do the same against a player that can at times be impossible to break serve even if Lopez is not the same threat as he once was on a grass court.

Playing styles and prediction

Lopez has an awkward style on clay with accurate serving and effective volleying allowing him to test any player’s returning ability. Having won Queen’s Club a few years ago as well the quarter-finals at Wimbledon makes him a serious threat.

Evans’ slice will be crucial in order to neutralise the points but will also need to show that he can be aggressive as any short balls will definitely be punished by the Spaniard. This match may last all day and night but the Brit’s stamina should be enough to see him outlast Lopez in a long-winded opening round.

Prediction: Evans in five sets.
