SION, SWITZERLAND – Dahnon Ward entered the event in Switzerland and was unseeded. The Brit lifted the title and defeated two seeds en route.

Dahnon Ward entered the ITF event in Sion, Switzerland. The Brit was unseeded. In the first round Ward was against Nico Langmann. Ward dominated the Austrian in the first set, as Langmann struggled to hold serve. The Brit eased through the first set. The second was a little closer as Langmann started to play better. Eventually, Ward broke serve and moved into the next round 6-1, 6-4.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Robin Groenewoud. The Dutchman stayed close to Ward in the first set, before the Brit broke serve and moved ahead. The second set was much easier for Ward. The Brit dominated the second set and eased through to the next round 6-4, 6-1.

The semi-final saw Ward against the top seed Gaetan Menguy. The Frenchman dominated the first set, as Ward struggled to get into the match. However, the second set saw Ward re-group and stay toe to toe with Menguy and force a tiebreak. In the breaker Ward edged through to level the match. In the final set Ward and Menguy stayed close. Eventually, the Brit managed to break serve and move into the final 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.

In the final Ward was against the second seed Sergei Lysov. The Israeli stayed with the Brit in the first set, forcing a tiebreak. Ward edged the breaker and took the lead. The second set saw the seed re-group. Lysov managed to break the Brit serve and level up the match. The final set was fairly close, at least at the start. The Brit managed to break serve though and lift the trophy 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4.

 

 

Wheelchair Round Up

Cornelia Oosthuizen was defeated by Britta Wend in the first round in Sion 6-4, 7-5.

Dahnon Ward with Nico Langmann were defeated by Robin Groenewoud & Maarten Ter Hofte in the first round in Sion 0-0 (RET).
