DAEGU, SOUTH KOREA – Lucy Shuker claimed the doubles title with Aniek Van Koot. The Brit has won two doubles titles in the last two weeks.

Lucy Shuker with Aniek Van Koot entered the event in Deagu and were second seeds. As a result they received a bye in the first round. In the quarter-final Shuker & Van Koot were against Cornelia Oosthuizen & Nalani Buob. The Brit/Dutch pair were pushed hard in the first set by the Brit/Swiss pair, who forced a tiebreak. In the breaker it was the seeds who edged through and took the lead. The second set saw Shuker & Van Koot dominate and move into the next round 7-6(5), 6-2.

The semi-final saw Shuker & Van Koot against the fourth seeds Katharina Kruger & Saki Takamuro. The German/Japanese pair were outclassed from the start. The second seeds dominated from the outset. Shuker & Van Koot only lost one game all match and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

The final pitched Shuker & Van Koot were against the top seeds Manami Tanaka & Zhu Zhenzhen. The Japanese/Chinese pair fought hard and stayed with the second seeds. Eventually, Shuker & Van Koot broke serve and took the first set. The second set was more of the same. Tanaka & Zhu played well and stayed close to the second seeds. However, Shuker & Van Koot once again secured the break of serve and lifted the title 7-5, 6-4.

Wheelchair Round Up

Cornelia Oosthuizen was defeated by Saki Takamuro in the first round 6-1, 6-3.

Lucy Shuker was defeated by Ksenia Chasteau in the first round 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Miami Open held an exhibition week with Wheelchair Tennis, Brit Alfie Hewett took part, one of his matches saw him against Jannik Sinner, who claimed the Miami Open title. The Brit is hopeful that Miami will allow Wheelchair tennis in the future.
