Andrew Penney entered the event in Portugal and was the second seed. The Brit had a first round bye. In the second round Penney was against Lazlo Farkas. The Hungarian stayed with the Brit in the first set and it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Penney broke serve just at the right time and took the lead. The second set was more of the same, with Farkas staying with Penney. Eventually, Penney broke serve and took the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.

The quarter-final saw Penney against eighth seed Jean-Paul Melo. The Portuguese was no match for the second seed who dominated from the outset. Penney had little trouble with Melo, breaking at will and not dropping a game all match. The Brit moved into the semi-final in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

In the semi-final the Brit was against fourth seed Said Himam. The Moroccan struggled in the first set to stay with Penney, who dominated from the off. The Brit soon had the first set in the bag. The second set was slightly closer, but Himam was unable to break serve. Penney secured the vital break of serve and moved into the final in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

The final saw Penney against the top seed Enrique Siscar Meseguer. The Spaniard was too good for the Brit, unfortunately. Meseguer dominated the match from the outset and lost only one game to lift the title in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles

Penney teamed up with Giorgos Lazaridis and were the second seeds. They were against Said Himam & Weslley Jose. The Brit/Greek pair were too good for the Moroccan/Brazilian. The semi-final saw the Brit/Greek against Spaniards Arturo Montes Vorcy & Mario Roque. Penney & Lazaridis dominated again from the start, although the Spaniards tried hard to fight. The second seeds eased through into the final without much trouble 6-2, 6-1.

In the final the Brit/Greek were against the top seeds Jakub Dominik Bukala & Enrique Siscar Meseguer. The first set was very very close, as Penney & Lazaridis forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the second seeds edged through to take the lead. The second set was dominated by the Pole/Spaniard and they didn’t drop a game to level up the match. In the match tiebreak the top seeds eased through and lifted the title 6-7(5), 6-0, 10-4.
