EASTBOURNE, SUSSEX, GB – Andy Lapthorne claimed the singles and doubles titles in Eastbourne. Lucy Shuker claimed the ladies doubles title.

Andy Lapthorne was unseeded and entered the Eastbourne event. In the first round the Brit was against fellow Brit Oliver Cox. Lapthorne dominated from the outset and only lost one game all match. The Brit eased through into the next round in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

The semi-final saw Lapthorne against the top seed Sam Schroder. The Dutchman found the Brit too good. Lapthorne broke early in the first set to take the lead. The second set was a little closer, as Schroder stayed with Lapthorne. Eventually, the Brit broke serve and moved into the final 6-3, 6-4.

In the final the Brit was against second seed Ahmet Kaplan. Lapthorne went toe to toe with the Turk and broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw the seed fight back. Kaplan broke the Brit serve and levelled up the match, The final set saw Lapthorne dominate and lift the trophy 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

In the doubles, Lapthorne teamed up with Gregory Slade. The Brits were against Ahmet Kaplan & Sam Schroder in the semi-final. The Brits forced a tiebreak and edged through to take the lead. The second set saw Kaplan & Schroder try to fight back, however, Lapthorne & Slade broke serve and moved into the next round 7-6(8), 6-4.

The final saw the Brits against Gary Cox and Oliver Cox. Lapthorne & Slade dominated from the outset and barely put a foot wrong. Gary & Oliver struggled to hold serve and soon found the more experienced pair too good. Lapthorne and Slade took the title 6-1, 6-1.

 

 

Wheelchair Tennis Round Up

Gary Cox was defeated by Gregory Slade in the first round 6-0, 6-2.

Andrew Penney was defeated by Ben Bartram in the first round 6-1, 6-1.

Cornelia Oosthuizen was defeated by Zhu Zhenzhen in the first round 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Ruby Bishop was defeated by Lucy Shuker in the first round 6-4, 6-3.

Gregory Slade was defeated by Ahmet Kaplan in the semi-final 6-3, 6-7(10), 6-0.

Lucy Shuker was defeated by Angelica Bernal in the semi-final 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Ben Bartram was defeated by Ruben Spaargaren in the semi-final 6-4, 6-3.

Ben Bartram with Sergei Lysov were defeated by Daniel Caverzaschi & Tom Egberink in the semi-final 6-4, 6-4.

Andrew Penney with Ji Zhenxu were defeated by Daniel Caverzaschi & Tom Egberink in the final 6-3, 6-1.

Lucy Shuker with Diede De Groot defeated Cornelia Oosthuzien & Macarena Cabrillana in the final 6-0, 6-1.
