Alfie Hewett was the top seed in the singles of the ITF event in Sardinia. In the first round the Brit was against Frederic Cattaneo. Hewett dominated the Frenchman in the first set, as Cattaneo was unable to hold serve. The second set saw the Frenchman play better, but the top seed still secured the break of serve needed to move into the next round 6-0, 6-3.
The second round saw Hewett against Luca Meini. The Italian was no match for the Brit who dominated from the start of the match. The top seed was untroubled by Meini who could not hold serve at all. Hewett eased through into the next round in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
In the quarter-final Hewett was against Joachim Gerard. The Belgian was able to take the game to the Brit, as the top seed did secure a break and the first set. However, Gerard re-grouped in the second and broke the Brit and levelled up the match. In the final set once again saw Hewett break the Belgian and move into the next round 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The semi-final was a topsy turvy match. Against fourth seed Martin De La Puente the top seed dominated the first set and didn’t lose a game. However, the Spaniard re-grouped in the second set and dominated Hewett to level up the match. The final set was much closer. Both players held serve and didn’t give an inch. Fittingly, a tiebreak followed, which Hewett eased through to book a spot in the final 6-0, 1-6, 7-6(3).
In the final Hewett was against second seed Gustavo Fernandez. The Argentine tried to stay with the Brit, but the top seed was just too good for Fernandez. The Brit broke early in each set to take the lead. No matter what the second seed tried, Hewett was equal to it and the Brit took the title 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles Hewett teamed up with Ben Bartram and were the fourth seeds. In the first round the Brits were against Italian pair Lorenzo Bonavita & Yuri Sabatelli. The Italians were no match for the Brits who stormed through the match without losing a game. Hewett & Bartram eased into the next round 6-0, 6-0.
The quarter-final saw the Brits against another Italian pair Mario Cabras & Paolo Tontadonati. Just like the first round, Hewett & Bartram dominated Cabras & Tontadonati. The fourth seeds were just too good for the Italians, and the Brits again progressed without losing a game 6-0, 6-0.
In the semi-final the Brits were against the top seeds Gustavo Fernandez & Martin De La Puente. The Brits and the top seeds went toe to toe in the first set and a tiebreak ensued. The top seeds dominated the breaker and took the lead. However, Hewett & Bartram re-grouped in the second and managed to break the top seeds to level the match. The final set saw the top seeds break again and take the win 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-3.
