Gregory Slade entered the ITF event in Como and was the second seed. The Brit received a bye in the first round. His first match was the quarter-final against Davide Giozet. The Italian was no match for the second seed as Slade cruised through the match. Slade dominated from start to finish and took the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

In the semi-final Slade was against the third seed Kim Myung Je. The Korean got off to the better start, and broke the serve of Slade to take the lead. However, the Brit was not going down quietly, and regrouped. Slade dominated the second and third sets, without really being troubled on serve. Slade moved into the final 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

In the final the Brit was against unseeded Italian Alfredo Di Cosmo. Slade broke quite quickly in the first set and Di Cosmo was unable to get back into the set. The second set was much of the same, as the Brit found a way to break the Italian. Slade took the match in straight sets to lift his second international title 6-3, 6-3.

Women’s Doubles

Abbie Breakwell teamed up with Britta Wend and were the top seeds. In the quarter-final the Brit/German were against Christina Deac & Monica Quassinti. The top seeds made light work of Deac & Quassinti as they dominated from the off. Breakwell & Wend broke at will and lost only two games to move into the next round 6-2, 6-0.

The semi-final saw Breakwell & Wend against Silvia Morotti & Vanessa Ricci. The Italians found the top seeds too strong in the first set. The Brit/German dominated the set and took the lead. The second set was a little closer as Morotti & Ricci found their game. However, Breakwell & Wend secured the break of serve and took the match 6-1, 6-4.

In the final the top seeds were to play Italians Stefania Galletti & Marianna Lauro. However, the Italians withdrew before the match started, handing a walkover and the victory to Breakwell & Wend 0-0 (RET).
