Murray will be hoping to raise his level on return as he looks to be more clinical against an erratic and inconsistent Moutet.

Playing styles and prediction

Moutet has been in poor form heading into the US Open however qualifying for Cincinnati will give him something to build on heading into the final Grand Slam of the season. On his day, Moutet can outplay on the tour but with a short fuse, those occasions are very rare as his erratic emotions can get the best of him.

Murray will look to maintain a consistent performance on serve and return, using depth to force unforced errors from the Frenchman. Meanwhile Moutet will look to use his power and variety to test Murray’s athleticism across the court. Should Murray be 100% fit then he should comfortably win this match but if the Brit is not fully fit then it could be a tough day at the office for the former champion.

Prediction: Murray in straight sets.
