After a difficult season Bianca Andreescu is finally finding her confidence again, the latest example of that is her 70 minute demolition of Greet Minnen in the third round. The Canadian is on a 10 match winning streak at the US Open and seemingly using her 2019 victory as a platform to turn her season around. Now Andreescu will look to use that confidence and take advantage of some of the favourites exiting the tournament as she seeks a second grand slam title.
Before thinking about the title, Andreescu has four more matches to win and the first of those comes against the in-form Maria Sakkari. The Greek has had a tough draw but has confidently beaten Marta Kostyuk, Katerina Siniakova and Petra Kvitova without dropping a set. Now the world number 18 looks to make the quarter-finals at the US Open for the first time in her career.
Their only meeting came in Miami this year where the Canadian won in the last set tiebreak en route to reaching the final. A similar battle is set although it will be interesting to see if a more aggressive Andreescu can punch holes in Sakkari’s gritty defensive game. This is sure to be another US Open classic when these two meet.
Prediction: Andreescu in three sets.

Winning Olympic gold has sure given Alexander Zverev a boost with the German backing that success up with a title in Cincinnati. However the fourth seed survived a tough test in his third round when he benefited from a Jack Sock retirement with the American seemingly playing lights out tennis in the early stages of that match. Is that the scare Zverev needed to up his level as he looks to go one better than last year and win his first grand slam title?
Standing in Zverev’s way on Monday will be big-hitting Jannik Sinner who eventually edged past Gael Monfils in five sets in the last round. Sinner has started to play some of his best tennis again after recently having a dip in form with that title in Washington being the start of some renewed confidence. Now the Italian will look to make his mark on the grand slam scene.
Zverev will have to play a lot better in this match if he wants to keep his grand slam hopes alive. The Italian will not let Zverev have any free points and will look to blast his way into the last eight. Despite this, Zverev still has to be the favourite in this match given the way he has been playing at the big events lately.
Prediction: Zverev in five sets.

Iga Swiatek survived another test against Anett Kontaveit to reach the last 16 at the US Open for the first time. The Pole is the only WTA player this season to reach the second week at every grand slam and now with Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka out, Swiatek has every right to believe that she can win her second grand slam title in New York.
Standing in Swiatek’s way is an in-form Belinda Bencic who is carrying the momentum from her Olympic gold medal. Another comfortable win over Jessica Pegula has seen her move into the last 16 without dropping a set. Can Bencic finally break her grand slam duck and make her breakthrough in New York.
Stylistically this match is Swiatek’s to lose with her variety and slices able to neutralise Bencic’s power game as was seen in Adelaide. However if the Pole doesn’t improve on her previous performances than Bencic will have the confidence to seal her place in the last eight. The incentive for the winner is a quarter-final match against an unseeded player.
Prediction: Swiatek in three sets.
