Emma Raducanu def. Shelby Rogers 6-2, 6-1

The amazing run of Emma Raducanu continues. Playing on Arthur Ashe for the first timt the nerves were evident as Shelby Rogers broke in the first game, and from there it became one-way traffic in the first set as Raducanu reeled off six games in a row to win the first set.

In fact it turned out to be 11 games on the bounce for the Brit, who had to fight to close out the match, taking it on her fourth match point.

After the match, she said: “It means a lot to have gone out there and to have performed. Shelby Rogers is an extremely experienced opponent, so I knew I would have to bring it today. To play on Ashe for the first time, it was a little bit of a nervy experience in the beginning.

“I was really proud of myself, how I managed to settle and regroup and find a level that at the end took me to the win.”

Playing Styles & Prediction

The stats might well give Bencic a little pause for thought. Raducanu is hitting free at the moment, and it is fair to say that she has learnt a lot after the pressure of Wimbledon. Without a home-crowd favourite, Raducanu will be able to orchestrate the crowd once more, and this could be tough for Bencic to face.

The Swiss is one of the smartest thinkers out there on the court, and she combines that with a good serve and is sold off both wings. She takes the ball early so she should be able to handily deal with the power the Raducanu brings.

The Brit has nothing to lose at all, and she showed that she could adapt her game to handle more physical opponents.

She added: “I know Belinda. She has a lot of experience on the tour. She’s in great form, having won Olympic gold. I’m also feeling good about my game, also confident with the amount of matches I’ve played. I feel like I’m building with each one.

“It will be an extremely difficult match. I know if I’m going to have a chance, I’m going to have to play some really good tennis.”

Prediction: Bencic in three sets
