ALDERSHOT, UK – Eliz Maloney & Louis Bowden claimed the week 6 titles. Maloney dropped only one set en route. Bowden won second title of 2023 series, in only his third week.
Eliz Maloney was the second match on court 1 on Monday. The 22 year old was against Summer Yardley and dominated the first set. Yardley was unable to hold serve and soon Maloney had the first set in the bag. The second set saw Yardley get into the match, holding serve a few times. However, the 22 year old managed to break again and take the match 6-0, 6-3.
The next match for Maloney was on Tuesday, again the second match on court 1. The 22 year old was against Adeola Greatorex. The 18 year old was not able to stay with Maloney in the first set, as once again Maloney dominated to take the lead. The second set saw Greatorex try and mount a fight back, but Maloney was just too good. Maloney moved on in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against Michelle Dzjachangirova. The 21 year old Dutch player managed to get some games on the board, but Maloney was still dominating. The Brit continued where she had left off in the previous matches. Although Dzjachangirova did manage to hold serve. Maloney moved into the semi-final in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
The semi-final saw Maloney against Jaquelyn Ogunwale. The 18 year old proved to be the toughest test so far. The first set was very close, as Ogunwale stayed with the older Brit. Eventually, Maloney broke serve to take the lead. The second set though was very different. Maloney dominated again and moved easily into the final 6-4, 6-0.
In the final Maloney was against Danielle Daly. Both 22 year olds were fighting to claim the title. Daly broke Maloney in the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Maloney re-group and break serve to level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak Maloney eased through and took the title 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Men’s Event
Louis Bowden started week 6 on Sunday. His first opponent was Oscar Weightman. The 21 year old stayed with Bowden in the first set and forced a tiebreak. The Younger Brit edged through the tiebreak to take the lead. The second set saw Weightman secure a break of serve against Bowden and level the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak, Bowden edged through to take the win 7-6(5), 4-6, 11-9.
The second match was against Toby Martin. The 30 year old Brit got the jump on his young compatriot and broke serve to take the lead. Bowden re-grouped in the second set and dominated to level up the match. The final match tiebreak was very close, but Bowden managed to edge through 4-6, 6-0, 10-7.
In the quarter-final Bowden was against Joe Tyler. The young Brit didn’t lose a game in the first set, as Tyler was unable to hold serve. The second set saw Tyler manage to get into the game a little, but Bowden still dominated the set and took the match 6-0, 6-2.
The semi-final saw Bowden against Ivan Denisov. The non Brit couldn’t stay with the Brit during the match. The first set saw the Brit break more or less at will as Denisov couldn’t hold serve. The second set was even easier for Bowden. The young Brit moved into the final in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
In the final Bowden was against Weightman again. The first set was close, as both players tried to get the vital break of serve. Bowden managed to break the Weightman serve to get the lead. The second set was much closer. Neither player could get the break at the start and it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Bowden managed to get the vital break and take the title 6-4, 7-5.
Other Results
Jaquelyn Ogunwale defeated Kate Mansfield 6-3, 0-6, 10-6 to finish third.
Ryan Storrie defeated Ivan Denisov 6-1, 7-6(5) to finish third.
Sean Hodkin defeated Brandon Murphy 6-4, 7-5 to finish fifth.
Michelle Djzachangirova defeated Summer Yardley 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 to finish fifth.
Joe Tyler defeated George Houghton 7-6(6), 3-3 (RET) to finish seventh.
Alessia Popescu defeated Regina Ristic-North 6-0, 6-2 to finish seventh.
