- Loffhagen won week 7 last season
WELWYN GARDEN CITY, UK – Danielle Daley & George Loffhagen won the titles in week 3. For Daley, it was her first title, despite being a regular at the event since inception.
Danielle Daley has been a regular entrant at the Pro League since its inception in 2020. The 22 year old started the week as the last match on court 1. Daley was against Eva Shaw. The 17 year old stayed with the older player at the start of the match, before Daley managed to get the break of serve needed to take the lead. The second set saw Daley dominate Shaw, who struggled to hold serve. Daley soon had her first win of the week in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
On Tuesday Daley played her second match of the week, this time against Jessica Matthews. The 22 year old dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set was much closer, as neither Daley nor Matthews could get the vital break of serve. The set went to a tiebreak. In the breaker it was Daley who dominated from the off and took the match in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(2).
In the quarter-final Daley was against Kate Mansfield. The 22 year old got off to a flying start, and was soon a break up on Mansfield. The 18 year old American struggled in the match and eventually had to retire, handing the win and a semi-final place to Daley 3-1 (RET).
The semi-final saw Daley against Andre Lukosuite. The 21 year old Lithuanian found the Brit too strong in the first set, as Daley dominated and took the lead. The second set was a bit closer as Lukosuite held serve better. Eventually, though, Daley made the decisive move and broke serve to book a spot in the final 6-1, 6-4.
In the final Daley took on Emma Wilson. The 22 year old dominated the first set and took the lead. However, in the second set Wilson re-grouped and managed to break the serve of Daley to level up the match. The ensuing match tiebreak saw Daley edge ahead and claim the title 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
Men’s event
George Loffhagen kicked off his campaign on Monday, being the first match on court 1. The Brit was against Ivan Denisov. Loffhagen dominated from the off, as Denisov struggled with the pace of the match. No matter what Denisov threw at the Brit, Loffhagen was equal to it. The Brit took the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The second match Loffhagen played was against Ying Hou. The 22 year old Brit found Loffhagen too good. The 21 year old dominated from the outset, and Hou really struggled to hold serve. The younger Brit soon had the match won and with very little effort, taking the match 6-1, 6-2.
In the quarter-final Loffhagen was against Joe Tyler. The 24 year old had nothing in the first set as the 21 year old dominated and took the lead. The second set was a little closer, as Tyler started to find his game, and tried to battle back. However, Loffhagen got the break needed to move into the semi-final 6-0, 6-3.
The semi-final saw Loffhagen against James Davies. The 24 year old stayed with the younger Brit at the start, before eventually, Loffhagen secured the break of serve needed to move into the lead. This seemed to spur the 21 year old Brit on, as the second set was dominated by Loffhagen, who moved into the final in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
In the final Loffhagen was against Dan Cox. The 32 year old was dominated in the match by the 21 year old. Loffhagen was not going to be denied the title, no matter what Cox tried. Loffhagen managed to take the victory in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
