The UK Pro League series returned for the 2022 season and kicked off in Roehampton. Alastair Gray started the quest for victory on Monday with a match against Ryan Peniston. 23 year old Gray broke serve in the first set to take the lead. 26 year old Peniston fought back in the second, breaking Gray to level up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak. Gray edged out Peniston to take the win 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

In the second pool match Gray took on Joshua Paris. Both players stayed toe to toe in the first set. As neither could make the breakthrough a tiebreak ensued. Gray edged ahead in the breaker and took the lead. The second set followed a similar vein. Evenutally though, Gray secured the vital break of serve to claim the win 7-6(7), 7-5.

The quarter-final saw Gray against Oscar Weightman. The 23 year old dominated the first set as Weightman struggled to hold serve. Gray eased through the set and took the lead. In the second set Weightman was unable to stop Gray. The 23 year old dominated again, and didn’t lose a game to book a semi-final spot 6-2, 6-0.

In the semi-final Gray was up against Anton Matusevich. The 23 year old continued where he had left off the day before. Gray dominated the first set. Matusevich tried to get back on terms with Gray but was unable to do so. Gray stormed through the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Gray again dominate. Matusevich struggled to hold serve. Gray moved into the final 6-2, 6-1.

The final was a rematch of the first pool game. With Gray against Peniston. The 23 year old started the better and broke the serve of Peniston. The older Brit was unable to get back on terms and Gray had the lead. The second set was a little closer. Peniston stayed with Gray, eventually though the younger Brit took the break of serve and claimed the victory 6-3, 6-4.
