ROME, ITALY – Jacob Fearnley takes on Fabio Fognini in what should be a fiery opening round match for the Brit in Rome.

Fearnley will aim to be aggressive on serve against a clinical Fognini as the Italian prepares to save his best tennis for the Foro Italico.

 

 

Playing styles and prediction

Fognini’s recent downfall has been highlighted by the fact that he will be playing the qualifying event at Roland Garros. The Italian has been disappointing in recent years but is still capable of producing magical moments on home soil and will be hoping for one more sensational performance in Rome.

Fearnley will be aggressive on serve as he will look to use the backhand to test Fognini’s movement. Meanwhile the Italian will use the forehand to create ridiculous angles as he looks to open up the court and rush Fearnley. This will be a big test of Fearnley’s consistency but the Brit should have too much quality in what should be another incredible Foro Italico atmosphere.

Prediction: Fearnley in three sets.
