ROME, ITALY – Kyle Edmund is aiming to gain confidence and match wins in Rome as he takes on French qualifier Alexandre Muller in his Rome opener.

Edmund will need to improve his serving in this match given Muller’s returning efficiency as the Brit will look to make more first serves than he did in Madrid.

 

 

Playing styles and prediction

Muller has gained a lot of confidence over the last few months having gone deep at challenger events as well as reaching the Marrakech final. Now the Frenchman will look to continue his fine form and use his power to force errors from Edmund as he looks to climb further inside the top 100.

Edmund need to serve well and test Muller’s inpatient returning as he looks to use angles to construct clean and efficient points. This will be a tough test for Edmund and this match will test the Brit’s defensive skillset to a new level. The Brit will be encouraged by his recent level but at the moment Muller’s confidence should see him into the second round.

Prediction: Muller in three sets.
