Jannik Sinner [1] v Novak Djokovic [6] | H2H: Tied at 4-4

World number one Jannik Sinner is yet to drop a set at this year’s Roland Garros as he swatted Alexander Bublik away to reach a second consecutive semi-final in Paris. Now the Italian will look to go one step further than last year as he continues his journey towards his clay court breakthrough. Standing in Sinner’s way in the last four is 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic with the Serb continuing his recent revival with a four set win over Alexander Zverev.

Despite missing the tour for three months, Sinner has remained unaffected as he has cruised into the last four at Roland Garros for the second consecutive year.

The Italian now aims to reach his first final on his path to achieving his clay court holy grail with a fourth Grand Slam title in his sights.

A tough test of Sinner’s title credentials await in the form of three-time champion Djokovic who edged past Zverev to reach his 13th Roland Garros semi-final.

Now Djokovic looks to take his recent revival to a historic 25th Grand Slam title and prove that he can still win Grand Slam titles.

Speaking after his quarter-final win Sinner spoke about getting balance in his game ahead of the semi-finals.

“We work a lot on having a good balance with my body,” Sinner reflected to the Roland Garros website.

“When you play against top players, you have to be very consistent because if you make a lot of mistakes, it’s already a game where, if we both serve very well, there are not so many rallies. That’s why I try to get rhythm with the rallies.

“I’m very happy with how I’ve arrived into the semi-finals. The semi-finals in Grand Slams are very special, I’m looking forward to it. Let’s see what’s coming.”

Meanwhile Djokovic admitted that playing the best players in the world pushes him to a new level and motivates him.

“It’s a proven kind of testament to myself that I can and to others that I can still play on the highest level,” Djokovic told the Roland Garros website.

“Beating one of the best players in the world on the biggest stages is something that I definitely work for, and I still, you know, push myself on a daily basis at this age because of these kinds of matches and these kinds of experiences.”

Sinner will aim to dominate on the forehand side and will use depth to accelerate the rallies in order to force errors from Djokovic.

Meanwhile Djokovic will look to be aggressive on serve, using the dropshot to affect again as he will come into the net to mix things up.

The Serb’s confidence and patience in the longer rallies means that he should be able to test Sinner’s physicality and quality for a sustained period of time.

However, Sinner should have too much power and consistency to win the big points and advance to his first Roland Garros final.

Prediction: Sinner in four sets.

Carlos Alcaraz [2] v Lorenzo Musetti [8] | H2H: Alcaraz leads 5-1

Although it’s been a bumpy road at times, Carlos Alcaraz worked his way through the gears to continue his title defence with a resounding victory over Tommy Paul. Now the world number two aims to continue his clay court dominance in order to achieve more Grand Slam success. The next test for Alcaraz is Lorenzo Musetti as the Italian is rewarded for his good clay court season by achieving his first Roland Garros semi-final after defeating Frances Tiafoe.

It’s been a tricky road to the semi-finals for Alcaraz but the Spaniard is playing his way into form.

The title defence is still on for Alcaraz as he looks to cement his Roland Garros legacy and add to his Grand Slam opponent.

Now Alcaraz gets to renew his rivalry with Musetti as the two players have met on two previous occasions over this clay court season.

The Italian is into his first Roland Garros semi-final and now aims to continue breaking new ground as he targets a first Grand Slam final.

Reflecting on his semi-final win, Alcaraz spoke about how well he played and what Roland Garros means to him.

“I could close my eyes and everything went in,” Alcaraz stated to the Roland Garros website.

“My feeling today was unbelievable. I was trying to hit every shot at my 100 per cent… not thinking about anything else, and today was one of those matches where everything went in. I’m just pleased with everything.

“I always say that this tournament is so special to me. Every time I come here, every year, it feels special. Before the tournament begins, I always think that I really want to go far in this tournament, to feel the energy from the people match after match.

“I’m really happy to be in the semifinals again, third time in a row, so I’m just trying to enjoy this moment and hopefully keep it going.”

Meanwhile Musetti spoke about how being a father has helped him grow as a tennis player.

“I guess it’s a process of growing, not just on the court but especially off the court,” Musetti explained to the Roland Garros website.

“Last year I became a father, and I think that gave me an extra responsibility, and I think now I approach things in a more professional way, not just on the court in the match, but in the daily routine. It’s really important for me to be in order when I practice and even in my free time.”

Alcaraz will aim to dominate proceedings on the forehand side, using pace and depth to pin Musetti behind the baseline.

Meanwhile Musetti will use the backhand to rush Alcaraz’s game, coming into the net to finish points off.

This will be a competitive match but as the previous two meetings have shown, Alcaraz should have too much consistent quality for the Italian.

Prediction: Alcaraz in straight sets.
