It’s been a fairly comfortable tournament for Sinner who is yet to drop a set in Paris while Alcaraz has taken the slightly bumpier route to the final.

An exceptional Roland Garros continues for Sinner as he produced a stunning performance against Djokovic to reach a first Roland Garros final.

Now Sinner will aim to win the title as he is the first Italian for 47 years to reach a Roland Garros final.

After his semi-final win Sinner labelled Djokovic as a ‘role model’ and admitted the final will be a very difficult prospect given their recent head-to-head.

“It was a special occasion for me, in a semi-final of a Grand Slam against Novak. It’s just amazing,” Sinner told the Roland Garros website.

“It shows once again what a role model he is for all of us, especially for us young players. What he is doing at his age is incredible, so I only wish him the best for the rest of the season. I think we are all lucky to see him playing this high-level tennis. It’s very difficult. He’s achieved so many things, he’s the best player in the history of our sport and playing against him here is amazing.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult. I know my head-to-head lately doesn’t look great against Carlos [Alcaraz has won their last four matches] so we’ll see what I can do. I’m very happy to be here in the final. Of course I’ll enjoy these moments, they are rare, special moments in my career.

“This is a very special place for me, we’ll try and be prepared for the final.”

Standing in Sinner’s way is defending champion Alcaraz who is into a second consecutive final at Roland Garros.

The Spaniard has won the last four meetings against Sinner and will be full of confidence in what will be the first meeting between the two players at a Grand Slam final.

Ahead of the final Alcaraz hailed Sinner as the best tennis player in the world and admitted most of his wins against the Italian have come through suffering.

“He’s the best tennis player right now. I mean, he’s destroying every opponent,” Alcaraz stated to the ATP website.

“I love that battle. But most of the time is just about suffering, because [he pushes] you to the limit. It gives you feedback of how I can be a better player. I think that’s important, and that’s beautiful. Even if I win or not, it gives you a lot of stats and gives you feedback.

“It’s going to be a really great Sunday for fans of tennis.”

Sinner will need to force Alcaraz wide in order to open up the court as he will target the backhand of Alcaraz in order to extract errors.

Meanwhile Alcaraz will use the forehand to dominate proceedings as he will need to be aggressive on serve.

This match will be dependent on how many dips in form Alcaraz has on the day as he will need to start the match better than he did in his semi-final.

Neither player has lost a Grand Slam final so something has to give here with the recent head-to-head putting Alcaraz as favourite in what should be an incredible final.

Prediction: Alcaraz in five sets.
