Playing styles and prediction
Rune has had an underwhelming season so far with the Dane failing to capitalize on a hard-fought win against Grigor Dimitrov in Monte-Carlo. The world number 13 is in desperate need of a confidence boost and now turns to a place where he has had a lot of success in order to get his year back on track.
Evans will aim to be aggressive and use the depth on the backhand side as he will stick to his strengths and rush Rune by approaching the net. Meanwhile Rune will aim to be stable on both sides using the angles to pin Rune in wide areas which will allow him to hit efficient winners from inside the baseline. Evans’ performances have improved recently so the Brit has potential to test Rune in tight sets. In the end the Dane’s quality and confidence on big points should be enough to see him in the second round.
Prediction: Rune in straight sets.
