Playing Styles and Prediction

Etcheverry has had a good clay court season as the Argentinian has continued to cause problems with his brutal baseline game. A final in Houston and the Bordeaux challenger means the 23 year-old is in fine form and is looking to keep up that form in Paris as he targets a place in the world’s top 40 at some point this year.

Draper will look to use his power to force errors from the Argentinian and will look to be consistent on serve to neutralise the effective returning from Etcheverry. Meanwhile the Argentinian will look to continue to be confident on serve and will be patient from the baseline forcing Draper into tactical errors where he can use his variety to catch the Brit off guard. This will be a tough test for Draper and one where he will have to finish this match off quickly if he wants to advance to the second round. The Brit’s lack of preparation and fragile physicality could be exposed in this match with lessons being learned for the future.

Prediction: Etcheverry in five sets.
