Heather Watson v Elsa Jacquemot [W] | H2H: First Meeting

It continues to be a tough season for Heather Watson, who has yet to really ht her stride. She has had a handful of back-to-back wins with her best result this year being the third round in Miami. But the clay has been a different story.

Her opponent, Elsa Jacquemot, will have the crowd behind her, but most of her wins and runs have come at the ITF or WTA 125 levels – but she has plenty of experience this year on the dirt, which might well make all the difference.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Coming in on a wildcard, Jacquemot knows all about playing up to expectation when she came from a set behind to claim the junior French Open title. She might need to have that same resolve if Watson strikes first.

The Brit claimed an impressive scalp in Miami, ousting Elina Svitolina, but has yet to find any real consistency on the dirt, but she has a lot more experience behind her.

Jacquemot will have a lot more confidence having dropped to the lower tiers to get some match practice in, and her stats put her very much in the driving seat on paper.

As always with Watson, it could be a decisive win in straight sets, or a rollercoaster heartbreaker that goes the distance.

Prediction: Watson in three sets.
