Norrie’s opening match will be test of confidence as he is going up against someone who is comfortable on the surface and according to the statistics is finding confidence on his serve. The key area where Norrie must elevate his game is being more clinical on second serve return points.

Playing Styles and Prediction

The American qualifier enters Roland Garros with some form having reached the Tallahasse challenger final on clay followed by back-to-back wins in the Biella challenger and winning three matches to earn a main draw spot. Fratangelo has a big game with his forehand likely to do most of the damage. However the World No. 197’s inconsistent serving is something that has been holding him back in search of a top 100 spot.

This will be a test for Norrie there is no doubting that but this is the highest ranked opponent the American has faced all season. The Brit’s confidence should be too much especially in a best of five set match although don’t be shocked if the qualifier dominates in the early stages.

Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.
