Headlining this week’s rankings update on the men’s side is Nick Kyrgios after the Australian claimed the title in Washington. Kyrgios won both the singles and doubles titles in the American capital as he continues his resurgent form after reaching the final at Wimbledon. Kyrgios defeated the likes of Reilly Opelka, Frances Tiafoe and Yoshihito Nishioka to claim the title and his reward for that is climbing up 26 places to 37 in the world as he looks to be seeded at the US Open in a few weeks time.

Despite losing to Kyrgios in the final, it was a very good week for Nishioka who played some inspired tennis throughout the week to beat the likes of Alex De Minaur, Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev. As a result Nishioka’s reward is a 42 place rise up the rankings to 54 in the world.

Meanwhile there was also a 250 event in Los Cabos this week which saw world number one Daniil Medvedev claim the title after he defeated defending champion Cameron Norrie in the final. Medvedev’s win means he now extends his lead over Alexander Zverev as world number one to 1,115 points as he looks to become the year-end world number one for the first time in his career. The Russian will still need to set the bar high with titles to defend in Canada and the US Open while Rafael Nadal has no points to defend for the rest of the season.

As for Norrie, he couldn’t defend his title as he continues his good form from Wimbledon into the rest of the season. The Brit climbed up one place to 11 in the world despite not defending his title in Mexico and will now be looking to make a big push to returning to the world’s top ten before the US Open.

In other noticeable ranking rises, Mikael Ymer climbed 38 places to 77 in the world after reaching the semi-finals in Washington while J.J. Wolf climbed 15 places to 84 in the world. In ranking drops there was a 24 place drop for Mackenzie McDonald as he moves down to 72 in the world while defending Washington champion Jannik Sinner moves down to 12 in the world.

Finally in Brits action Andy Murray climbed up two places to 48 in the world despite an opening round defeat in Washington while Dan Evans has climbed up one place 39 in the world after reaching the quarter-finals in America’s capital.
