ATP Rankings and Brits Top 10
This week’s rankings report is headlined by Carlos Alcaraz as the Spaniard returned from injury like nothing happened. A first Rome title was won as he ended the hopes of Jannik Sinner who made his first appearance on the tour for three months. It was a big week for Alcaraz who now returns to world number two in the rankings and will be the second seed at Roland Garros.
Elsewhere in the top ten Jack Draper continues to make progressive moves as he overtook Novak Djokovic in the rankings. The British number one reached the final in Madrid and backed that up with a quarter-final performance in Rome. An incredible clay court season continues to get better as he is now a top five player heading into the second Grand Slam of the season in Paris.
Other ranking moves saw Lorenzo Musetti’s performance rewarded with a top eight seeding at Roland Garros as he is now eight in the world. Meanwhile, Casper Ruud’s absence from the world’s top ten didn’t last long with the Norwegian’s title in Madrid seeing him at seven in the world. Finally, Alexander Bublik claimed his first Challenger title for six years and was rewarded with a 25 place up the rankings to 51 in the world.
In British ranking news, Jacob Fearnley’s consistent rise up the rankings continued as he climbed up three places to 54 in the world. Meanwhile there was 25 place fall down the rankings for Dan Evans who is now at 215 in the world as his struggle for form and consistency continues.

On the women’s side the main headlines are for Iga Swiatek but this time for the wrong reasons. The Pole’s decline in form continued in Rome at the hands of Danielle Collins in what was poor third round performance. As a result Swiatek is now at five in the world and will not be a top four seed at Roland Garros ahead of her title defence.
Meanwhile the champion of Rome is Jasmine Paolini and the Italian overtook Swiatek in the rankings. The Italian claimed her second WTA 1000 title with some sensational tennis including defeating Coco Gauff as she now sits at four in the world. There is momentum building for Paolini as she looks to defend her final points from last year at Roland Garros. As for Gauff, the American reached back-to-back finals in Madrid and Rome as she is now the world number two and will feel this is her best chance to claim a first title in Paris.
In other ranking moves, Jelena Ostapenko moved down three places as she leaves the world’s top 20 at 21 in the world. Meanwhile there was a 14 place rise for Peyton Stearns after the American won three consecutive third set tiebreakers to reach her first semi-final at WTA 1000 level.
In terms of the Brits, Emma Raducanu climbed up six places to 43 in the world as the Brit reached the fourth round in Rome. There was also a two place rise for Katie Boulter as the Brit won her first title on clay at the WTA 125 event in Paris while Sonay Kartal climbed up three places to 53 in the world.
