Tennis | Rankings Report | Belinda Bencic makes return to top 100 after Abu Dhabi glory

  • Belinda Bencic achieved her biggest title since her return to the tour after claiming the Abu Dhabi title
  • Denis Shapovalov returns to world’s top 40 after claiming the Dallas title
  • There were casual rises for Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Sonay Kartal as the US hard court swing approaches
ABU DHABI, UAE – Belinda Bencic made her return to the world’s top 100 after claiming the title in Abu Dhabi.

ATP Rankings and Brits Top 10

The main headline on the ATP tour was the run of Denis Shapovalov at the ATP 500 event in Dallas. The Canadian defeated the top three seeds as Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Casper Ruud all succumbed to Shapovalov, who claimed the title. As a result Shapovalov climbed up 22 places in the world to 32 as he is finally making big improvements in his game to fulfil his potential on the tour.

In other ranking moves, Mattia Bellucci climbed up 24 places to 68 in the world after the Italian reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam as a qualifier. The Italian defeated Daniil Medvedev on his way to the last four and will be aiming for more success for the rest of the season. There is also a 11 place rise for Jaume Munar as the Spaniard’s semi-final place in Dallas sees him at 53 in the world while Alex De Minaur climbed up two places to six in the world.

In significant ranking falls, Marcos Giron is down eight places to 49 in the world while Luciano Darderi is down 13 places to 59 in the world. Meanwhile Federico Coria exited the top 100 and fell down 15 places to 115 in the world.

As for the Brits there are gradual rises for Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie. Draper is up one place to 15 in the world while Norrie is up two places to 61 in the world. However there was a big rise up the rankings for Billy Harris, who is up 13 places to 116 in the world.

WTA Rankings and Brits Top 10

The headline of this week’s rankings report is Belinda Bencic after the Swiss won her biggest title of her comeback in Abu Dhabi. On her way to the WTA 500 title, Bencic overcame Marketa Vondrousova, Elena Rybakina and Ashlyn Krueger as she achieved glory for the first time since returning to the tour as a mother. As a result Bencic makes her return to the world’s top 100 and climbs up the rankings by 92 places to 65 in the world as she targets more success in the near future.

As for the finalist Krueger, the American moves up 11 places to 40 in the world as she conjured up a fantastic run herself to make the final. Defending champion Rybakina fell down by two places to seven in the world with Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys both moving up a spot.

In other noticeable ranking moves, Cluj finalist Lucia Bronzetti climbed up 16 places to 56 in the world. Meanwhile defending Cluj champion Karolina Pliskova went down 22 places to 69 in the world as she missed the event in Romania this year. There is also a 17 place rise for Jil Teichmann as she returned to the world’s top 100.

As for the Brits, Emma Raducanu climbed down four places to 60 in the world as she suffered two first round exits in Abu Dhabi and Doha. Meanwhile Sonay Kartal moved up the rankings by six places to 85 in the world. However Harriet Dart is out of the world’s top 100 after dropping down 19 places to 119 in the world.
