Djokovic is into a gold medal match for the first time in his career after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and bronze medallist Lorenzo Musetti to reach the Olympic final.

Now the Serb has revenge on his mind from the thrashing he received at Wimbledon by Alcaraz as he aims to complete the golden slam in Paris.

After the semi-final win, Djokovic spoke about the importance of securing a medal for his country.

“I have been waiting for this for almost 20 years,” Djokovic told the ATP website

“I’ve played four Olympic games, this is my fifth and I’ve never passed semi-finals. I lost three semi-finals in my first four Olympic games. I managed to overcome this big hurdle. I must be honest and say that I was thinking about all the semi-finals that I lost.

“I’ve achieved a lot of great things in this sport, but never finals of an Olympic games, so I’m super thrilled. I hope I brought the joy to Serbian fans and people around the world and in also in Serbia. Of course I’m going to think about Alcaraz in the final tomorrow, but I’m also grateful to have a day off. I’m going to need one.”

The in-form Spaniard awaits Djokovic in the final as Alcaraz continues to tear apart the field and build on his incredible season.

A third consecutive big title awaits Alcaraz as he looks to capture Olympic gold on his first attempt and dent Djokovic’s historic bid once again.

Speaking ahead of the final Alcaraz soaked in the moment of reaching an Olympic final and what it means to represent Spain.

“It’s going to be a really special moment for me, in my life, in my career, so I’m going to try and enjoy this moment, because it’s going to be really difficult,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.

“It’s going to be difficult, but it’s going to be special… I will try to be focused on myself and try not to hear all this, all the fans, all the people that say ‘I’m going to win’. I just want to give 100 per cent my best tennis and hopefully I reach my goal to get the gold.”

Djokovic will need to be aggressive on serve as he looks to dictate on the forehand, therefore not allowing Alcaraz time to pick his spots.

Meanwhile Alcaraz will use the backhand to test Djokovic’s movement as he will aim for a mixture of power and variety to cause damage to Djokovic’s game.

This match being on clay gives Djokovic a better chance than at Wimbledon as he will be both nervous and motivated given what’s on the line in this final.

However in order for Djokovic to win gold he will need to produce a level that he hasn’t shown so far this tournament as Alcaraz enters this match as favourite to win a second title at Roland Garros this year.

Prediction: Alcaraz in three sets.
