Playing Styles and Prediction

Sinner’s incredible season continues as he moved into a second consecutive final at the Nitto ATP Finals with a crushing win over Casper Ruud.Β

Now the world number one searches for a eighth title this season as he proves that he truly is the best player in the world.

After his semi-final victory Sinner spoke about his return of serve against Ruud and why last year’s final defeat to Novak Djokovic will prove to be a blessing in disguise.

β€œI felt I was returning well in the first games of each set and then when going up a break I tried to be very concentrated with service games,” Sinner told the ATP website. Β

β€œI tried to be intense with each shot and I’m very happy with the performance and to be in the final again. It’s a very similar circumstance to last year as we have already played in the round-robin. I just try to play the best I can tomorrow.

β€œFrom last year to now I feel I have more experience and have grown as a player. Hopefully it will be a good day after a very positive week and a very positive year.”

Standing in Sinner’s way is Fritz in a rematch from their round robin clash after the American defeated Zverev for a third consecutive time.

The American will look to capture the biggest title of his career which would cap off an incredible last couple of years.

Speaking ahead of the final, Fritz spoke about his match with Zverev and admitted that he trusts his game more than he has done before.

β€œI felt like I played an almost perfect first set, but things can change so quickly when you’re playing someone like Sascha,” Fritz told the ATP website.

β€œI found myself in some tough spots in the third, when we both started to get on each other’s serves even more. When I was trying to be aggressive I didn’t feel like it was doing much. I just told myself at the end that I had to fight and be solid and tried to take care of my serve the best I could and give him absolutely nothing from the back.

β€œI trust my game and I trust my level. I don’t feel anywhere near as uncomfortable in these situations anymore because I’ve been putting myself in these situations against the top guys at big events a lot lately… I’m really confident in my game.”

Sinner will continue to strike the ball with ferociousness on the forehand side and he will need to remain alert at all times as it was his efficiency on return that won him the round robin match.

Meanwhile Fritz will need to take his chances on return by taking the ball early on the backhand side as this is what let him down in their first encounter.

Their first encounter was exhilarating and a high-quality affair with a lack of efficiency on return costing Fritz the match.

Opportunities will be few and far between but Sinner’s quality should prove too much although it could be a tense evening with the crowd expected to play a big part in the result.

Prediction: Sinner in three sets.
