Evans’ clinical returning will be put to the test against the efficient serving of Sonego with Italian proving dominant on his service games this season.

Playing styles and prediction

Sonego hasn’t had the best of starts to the year but the Italian will be positive he can turn his form around especially with victories over Felix Auger-Aliassime and Dominic Thiem this season. The Italian knows that a good run in Miami and a return to the world’s top 50 will be in his sights.

Evans will look to return well and be clinical on break point opportunities as Sonego will look to dominate on serve and test Evans’ confidence. A good start to the match from Evans otherwise this match could get away from him quite quickly. Conditions should suit him in Miami and the Brit’s losing streak should end here as long as he can find a consistent level throughout the match.

Prediction: Evans in three sets.
