Edmund will need to improve on serve and return when dealing with break points especially against an efficient player like Wu.

Playing styles and prediction

After struggling with injuries for so long, Wu has had an incredible last few months where he qualified for the US Open as well as gaining consistent wins on the Challenger circuit. That success was completed when he became the first Chinese man to win an ATP title in Dallas where he beat Denis Shapovalov, Taylor Fritz and John Isner with Wu now setting his sights on the world’s top 50.

Edmund will need to serve and return consistently well to have a chance but most importantly he needs to play the break points well on both serve and return. Wu has a good mix of variety and power that he can rely on to break Edmund’s game down as the Brit looks for only his third win on the ATP tour since his comeback. This should be a good test to see where Edmund’s game is at but Wu should edge through to the second round.

Prediction: Wu in three sets.
