NOTTINGHAM, UK – Charles Broom claimed the singles title of the ITF event. Liam Hignett & James MacKinley lifted the doubles title.

Charles Broom entered the ITF event and was the top seed. The Brit drew qualifier and fellow Brit Finn Murgett. The top seed got off to a great start in the first set, breaking freely as Murgett struggled to stay with the pace. Broom soon had the first set in the bag. The second set saw Broom dominate and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
The second round saw the top seed against another qualifier Mark Whitehouse. Broom dominated the first set as the qualifier could not stay with the fellow Brit. The top seed took the lead. The second set saw Broom and Whitehouse stay closer. Eventually, though, Broom broke serve and moved into the next round 6-1, 6-3.
In the quarter-final the top seed was against sixth seed Andres Martin. The American was the toughest opponent to date, staying toe-to-toe with Broom. Both sets proved to be very close. Martin forced a tiebreak in both sets and stayed with the top seed. However, the Brit managed to edge through both breakers and took the match in straight sets 7-6(7), 7-6(7).
The semi-final saw Broom against fellow Brit and fifth seed Alastair Gray. The first set saw the top seed break early and take the lead. The second set was much much closer. Neither Brit was going away and the set went to a tiebreak. In the breaker the top seed fought hard and eventually managed to edge through and into the next round 6-3, 7-6(6).
In the final the top seed was against unseeded Italian Fabrizio Andaloro. The first set was fairly even, as Andaloro stayed close. However, Broom managed to break serve and take the lead. The second set was a little easier for the Brit, breaking early and taking the title in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Doubles
Liam Hignett & James MacKinley were the third seeds at the event. In the first round the Brits were against Ewen Lumsden & Shinji Hazawa. The first set saw the seeds break early and take the lead. The second set was a little closer as Lumsden & Hazawa stayed with the Brits. Eventually, though, the seeds broke the serve of the Brit/Japanese pair and took the lead. The second set was closer. The Brit/Japanese stayed with the seeds and fought hard. Eventually, Hignett & MacKinley broke serve and took the match 6-3, 6-4.
The quarter-final saw the seeds against Giles Hussey & Ben Jones. Hignett & MacKinley broke serve quickly in the first set to take the lead. The second set, though, was much closer and looked to be heading to a tiebreak. Hussey & Jones went toe-to-toe with the seeds, before Hignett & MacKinley broke serve right at the end and took the match 6-3, 7-5.
In the semi-final the seeds were against Millen Hurrion & Harry Wendelken. The unseeded Brits dominated the first set as the seeds wobbled. Hurrion & Wendelken eased through the first set and took the lead. The second set was much closer. Hignett & MacKinley were forced to play harder and the seeds forced a tiebreak. In the breaker the seeds edged ahead and levelled up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak, both sides were fighting hard. Eventually, though, the seeds edged through and into the next round 1-6, 7-6(4), 11-9.
The final saw Hignett & MacKinley against Finn Murgett & James Story. The seeds started well and secured a break of serve to take the lead. The second set was much easier for the third seeds. Hignett & MacKinley dominated, as Murgett & Story could not hold serve. The seeds managed to claim the title in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
