- 14 year old Mika Stojsavljevic made the quarter-final in the singles
SUNDERLAND, UK – Freya Christie, Marcus Willis & David Stevenson all entered the doubles and claimed titles, Christie was top seed, whilst Willis & Stevenson were unseeded. Stojsavljevic took out the third seed in the first round.

Mika Stojsavljevic received a wild card into the singles event and in the first round drew the third seed Mona Barthel. The young Brit stayed with the seed in the first set and went toe to toe. Stojsavljevic forced a tiebreak which she dominated and took the lead. The second set saw the young Brit continue where she had left off and something was not right with Barthel. The German was unable to complete the match and gave Stojsavljevic the win 7-6(2), 3-0(RET).
In the second round, the 14 year old was against qualifier Emily Welker. Just like in the first round the Brit stayed toe to toe with the German and again forced a tiebreak. This time Stojsavljevic edged through and took the lead. The second set was much easier for the Brit who dominated and gave Welker no chance. The Brit moved into the next round in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-1.
The quarter-final saw Stojsavljevic against sixth seed Barbora Palicova. The Czech and Brit stayed close at the start before Palicova broke serve and took the lead. The second set started the same way, however, this time it was Stojsavljevic who got the break of serve and levelled up the match. Palicova re-grouped in the final set and dominated the young Brit, showing her experience to move through 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Doubles
As top seeds Freya Christie & Elena Malygina received a bye so their first match was the quarter-final against all British pair Abigail Amos & Danielle Daley. The unseeded pair got the jump on the seeds in the first set, breaking early to take the lead. However, Christie & Malygina re-grouped in the second and broke early to level up the match. The final match tiebreak saw the seeds ease through into the next round 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
In the semi-final, the Brit/Czech were against the fourth seeds Ekaterina Kazionova & Valentina Ryser. The fourth seeds went toe to toe with Christie & Malygina in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the tiebreak the top seeds dominated and took the lead. The second set was also very close. Once again, it looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Christie & Malygina broke right at the end of the set to take the match 7-6(2), 7-5.
The final saw the top seeds against unseeded pair Samantha Murray Sharan & Mariam Bolkvadze. The first set saw Christie & Malygina dominate and take the lead without dropping a game. The second saw Murray Sharan & Bolkvadze re-group. Breaking the serve of the top seeds the Brit/Georgian levelled up the match. In the match tiebreak the Brit/Estonian eased through and lifted the title 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.
Mens Doubles
Marcus Willis & David Stevenson were unseeded. In the first round the Brits were against Dutch pairing Alec Deckers & Sander Jong. The Brits broke early in the first set to take the lead. The second set saw the Dutch pair stay toe to toe with the Brits and force a tiebreak. In the breaker the Dutch pair edged through to level the match. The ensuing match tiebreak was very close, but the Brits edged through and took the match 6-3, 6-7(8), 10-8.
The quarter-final saw Willis & Stevenson against all British pair Alastair Gray & Damian Rodriguez. The first set was close, as both pairs stayed toe to toe. Eventually, Willis & Stevenson broke through and took the lead. The second set was even closer and went to a tiebreak. Gray & Rodriguez edged the breaker and levelled up the match. In the match tiebreak Willis & Stevenson once again edged through to the next round 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-8.
In the semi-final Willis & Stevenson were against Robert Cowley & David Quayle. Another battle of the Brits saw Willis & Stevenson dominate the first set to take the lead. The second set was a little closer as Cowley & Quayle managed to hold serve more. Eventually, though, Willis & Stevenson broke serve to move into the final 6-1, 6-3.
The final saw Willis & Stevenson against fourth seeds James Davis & Joshua Goodger. The first set saw the unseeded pair break serve of Davis & Goodger to take the lead. The second set was much closer as both pairs stayed toe to toe. Eventually, the seeds forced a tiebreak but it was the unseeded pair that eased through and lifted the trophy 6-4, 7-6(3).
