Sonay Kartal was the third seed in Shrewsbury. In the first round the Brit was against 15-year-0ld Hannah Klugman. The seed and Klugman went toe to toe at the start, before Kartal broke serve and took the lead. The second set was more of the same, as Klugman tried to stay with the seed. Eventually, Kartal once again broke serve, and moved on to the next round 6-4, 6-4.

The second round saw Kartal against Jodie Burrage. The seed and Burrage stayed very close and the first set looked to be heading to a tiebreak. The seed managed to break right at the end and take the lead. The second set was very close again. Burrage fought hard and stayed with Kartal. Eventually, though, the seed broke serve and moved into the next round 7-5, 7-5.

In the quarter-final Kartal was against Mingge Xu. The Young Brit proved to be the toughest match to date. Kartal & Xu went toe to toe, with neither player able to break serve. The first set went to a tiebreak. In the breaker the seed edged through and took the lead. This seemed to break the spirit of Xu, who could not re-group. The seed dominated and moved into the next round 7-6(6), 6-2.

The semi-final saw Kartal against second seed Oceane Dodin. The French woman stayed with the Brit in the first set and it looked to be going to a tiebreak. However, the Brit secured the vital break of serve right at the end to take the lead. Dodin was clearly struggling now and the French woman had to withdraw from the match, handing the win to Kartal 7-5, 2-1(RET).

In the final the seed was against Heather Watson. The older Brit stayed close in the first set, pushing Kartal and trying to force a tiebreak. Unfortunately, Kartal broke serve just at the end of the set and took the lead. The second set saw Kartal get off to a flying start, breaking Watson who was now struggling. Watson was forced to withdraw from the match, handing the win to her younger compatriot 7-5, 4-1(RET).
