ROEHAMPTON, UK – Toby Samuel entered the event with a wildcard and lifted the trophy. Henry Patten, Julian Cash, Naiktha Bains & Maia Lumsden all claimed doubles titles.

Toby Samuel was granted a wildcard into the ITF event in Roehampton. In the first round Samuel was drawn against qualifier Sean Hodkin. Samuel dominated the first set as Hodkin struggled to stay with 19 year old. The young Brit soon had the lead. The second set Samuel continued his domination, this time without dropping a game. Samuel moved into the second round 6-2, 6-0.

The second round saw Samuel against Millen Hurrion, who had conquered the second seed in the first round. Samuel & Hurrion stayed toe to toe and a tiebreak looked to be on the cards. However, right at the end of the set the 19 year old broke to take the lead. The second set saw Hurrion re-group and dominate Samuel and levelled up the match. The final set was very tight, and went to a tiebreak as neither player gave an inch. Samuel dominated the breaker and moved into the next round 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(1).

In the quarter-final Samuel was against Finn Bass. The 19 year old dominated the match from start to finish. No matter what Bass tried he could not get into the game of Samuel. The young Brit took the match in straight sets and progressed to the semi-final 6-2, 6-1.

The semi-final saw Samuel against the eighth seed Mark Whitehouse. The 19 year old managed to break serve early in the first set to take the lead. The second set saw Whitehouse put up more of a fight, however the young Brit once again broke serve to move into the final 6-3, 6-4.

In the final Samuel was against the seventh seed Henry Patten. The first set saw the 19 year old break the serve of Patten and move into the lead. The seed re-grouped in the second set, and both players went toe to toe, forcing a tiebreak. In the breaker Patten edged ahead and levelled up the match. The final set saw Samuel once again secure a break of serve and take the title 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-4.

 

Mens Doubles

Julian Cash & Henry Patten were the top seeds for the Roehampton doubles. In the first round the Brits were against Liam Hignett & Michael Shaw. The first set went to and fro as both pairs tried to break serve. Eventually, the set went to a tiebreak which the top seeds edged through and into the lead. The second set saw Cash & Patten break serve and move into the next round 7-6(5), 6-3.

The quarter-final saw Cash & Patten were against Ryan Golesworthy & James MacKinley. The unseeded Brits got the jump on the top seeds and broke serve to take the lead. The second set saw Cash & Patten re-group and break serve to level up the match. In the final set match tiebreak the top seeds edged through to moved into the next round 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

In the semi-final the top seeds were against Lui Maxted & Finn Murgett. The first set was close, as both pairs were unable to break serve. In the ensuing tiebreak the top seeds dominated and took the lead. In the second set Cash & Patten managed to secure a break of serve of Maxted & Murgett and moved into the final 7-6(2), 6-4.

The final was to be against the second seeds Luca Castelnuovo & Skander Mansouri. The Swiss/Tunisian pairing were unable to take to the court so the Brits were handed a walkover and the title. 0-0 (RET).

 

Womens doubles

Naiktha Bains & Maia Lumsden entered the event and were unseeded. In the first round the were against British wildcard pairing Jessica Matthews & Jaquelyn Ogunwale. Bains & Lumsden dominated the first set, as the wildcard pairing struggled with their bearings. The second set was a little closer as Matthes & Ogunwale stayed with Bains & Lumsden. It looked like a tiebreak was on the cards, however the higher ranked Brits managed to break serve and move into the next round 6-1, 7-5.

The quarter-final saw the Brits against the top seeds Justina Mikulskyte & Olivia Tjandramulia. Bains & Lumsden managed to break serve in the first set to take the lead. The second set saw the top seeds trying to fight back to get into the match, but the Brits kept the pressure up. Bains & Lumsden again broke serve and moved into the semi-final in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the semi-final the Brits were against the Swiss fourth seeds Jenny Duerst & Lulu Sun. Bains & Lumsden were made to work hard in the first set by the seeds. However, eventually the Brits secured the vital break of serve needed to move into the lead. This spurred on the Brits who totally dominated the second set and booked a spot in the final in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

The final saw Bains & Lumsden against Lauryn John-Baptiste & Katarina Stresnakova. The all British team dominated the first set as John-Baptiste & Stresnakova struggled to hold serve. The second set was much closer as both teams fought hard. The set went to a tiebreak which Bains & Lumsden edged to take the title 6-1, 7-6(4).

Angelica Blake was defeated by Naiktha Bains in the first round 6-2, 7-6(4).

Armani Banks was defeated by Olga Helmi in the first round 6-4, 6-4.

Danielle Daley was defeated by Lulu Sun in the first round 6-4, 6-3.

Kristina Paskauskas was defeated by Isabella Kruger in the first round 6-2, 6-4.

Eliz Maloney with Andre Lukoslute were defeated by Lauryn John-Baptiste & Katarina Stresnakova in the semi-final 6=3, 5-7, 10-6.
