Emile Hudd & Johannus Monday received a wildcard into the event and were unseeded. In the first round they drew fellow Brit wildcards Alexis Canter & Sean Hodkin. The first set was fairly even, as neither pair could get ahead at the start. However, eventually, Hudd & Monday broke through and took the lead. The second set was more of the same. Neither pair able to get the breakthrough and a tiebreak ensued. Hudd & Monday dominated the breaker and moved into the next round in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(1).
The quarter-final saw Hudd & Monday against unseeded pair Billy & Freddy Blaydes. The Blaydes brothers had sensationally overcome the third seeds in the first round to set this match up. Fittingly, the first set saw neither pair able to break serve, and again the set went to a tiebreak. This time the breaker was closer, but eventually, Hudd & Monday edged ahead and took the lead. The second set was a little easier for Hudd & Monday as they managed to get a handle on the Blaydes brothers serve. Securing the break needed, Hudd & Monday moved into the next round 7-6(4), 6-3.
In the semi-final the wildcard pair were against the top seeds Ben Jones & Charles Broom. The match proved to be the toughest so far, as the top seeds fought hard. Hudd & Monday managed to break serve right at the end of the first set and take the lead. However, in the second set Jones & Broom fought back and stayed with the wildcard pairing to force a tiebreak. In the breaker the top seeds eased through to level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak, Hudd & Monday eased through to book a spot in the final 7-5, 6-7(3), 10-5.
The final saw the unseeded Brits against the fourth seeds Francois Musitelli & Arthur Bouquier. The French pair did their best to make the Brits work for the win, and Hudd & Monday did just that. Securing a break of serve in the first set to take the lead. The second looked to be heading to a tiebreak, however, the Brits managed to get the vital break and take the title 6-4, 7-5.
Men’s singles
Dan Cox entered the event and was the fifth seed. In the first round the Brit was against qualifier Ronald Hohmann. The American didn’t have much against Cox in the first set, as the Brit broke serve and took the lead. The second set proved trickier as Hohmann stayed with the Brit. Eventually, Cos broke serve and moved through into the next round 6-3,7-5.
The second round saw Cox against fellow Brit William Jansen. The first set was very even, as neither player could break serve. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued. Jansen edged though and took the lead. Cox re-grouped in the second round, breaking the serve of Jansen to level up the match. The final set was very close again, and seemed to be heading to another tiebreak. However, Cox managed to break serve right at the end and booked a spot in the next round 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-5.
In the quarter-final Cox was against top seed Billy Harris. The fifth seed started well and managed to break serve of the top seed to take the lead. The second set was much closer, as Harris tried to fight back. Cox and Harris stayed toe-to-toe and looked to be heading to a tiebreak. However, Cox finally managed to get the breakthrough and booked a spot in the next round 6-4, 7-5.
The semi-final saw Cox against third seed Charles Broom. The lower ranked Brit stayed with Broom in the first set and forced a tiebreak. In the breaker Cox edged through to take the lead. The second set saw Cox and Broom fight hard, before Cox secured the break and moved into the final 7-6(5), 6-4.
In the final the Brit was against the second seed Luke Saville. The Australian broke serve and took the first set. However, in the second set Cox re-grouped and dominated Saville to level up the match. The final set saw the Australian dominate and lift the trophy 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
