Toby Samuel was unseeded and entered the ITF event in Nottingham. The Brit drew the fourth seed Luke Saville in the first round. The Australian found Samuel too strong in the first set. Samuel dominated and took the first set, dropping only one game. The second set was much closer as Saville & Samuel stayed toe to toe. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued. In the breaker Samuel edged through and took the win 6-1, 7-6(4).
In the second round, the Brit was against qualifier Billy Blaydes. Samuel dominated from the outset and had very little trouble from his compatriot. The qualifier struggled with the game of Samuel and the higher ranked Brit soon eased through into the next round 6-2, 6-1.
The quarter-final saw Samuel against German Mats Rosenkranz. The German stayed with the Brit at the start of the set, before Samuel managed to get the break of serve and took the lead. The second set saw Samuel dominate Rosenkranz and move into the next round 6-3, 6-2.
In the semi-final Samuel was against sixth seed Dan Cox. This proved to be the toughest match to date, Samuel & Cox went toe to toe and it looked like a tiebreak was on the cards. However, Samuel managed to secure the vital break of serve to take the lead. The second set was even closer, as neither player could secure the vital break. This set went to a tiebreak and Samuel eased through into the final 7-5, 7-6(3).
The final pitched Samuel against third seed Billy Harris. A fairly even match at the start, with both players staying in control and keeping the match on serve. Eventually, Samuel managed to break Harris in the first set to take the lead. The second set was more of the same as Samuel again broke Harris and took the title 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles
In the doubles Charles Broom & Ben Jones teamed up and were the second seeds. In the first round they were against Max Cunat & Thijmen Loof. The seeds dominated the first set and soon took the lead. The second set was slightly closer as Cunat & Loof managed to hold serve a bit more. However, Broom & Jones broke when needed and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-3.
The quarter-final saw Broom & Jones against James MacKinley & Alexander Maggs. Once again the seeds dominated the first set and took the lead. The second set saw MacKinley & Maggs try to fight back and hold serve more often. Eventually, the seeds managed to break through and moved into the next round 6-2, 6-4.
In the semi-final the seeds were against William Jansen & Ryan Storrie. The unseeded pair got the jump on Broom & Jones and broke to take the lead. The second set saw the seeds dominate as Jansen & Storrie struggled to get anything in the set. The final set was a match tiebreak, which the seeds edged to book a spot in the final 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
The final was due to be against unseeded pair Matthew Howse & Joel Pierleoni. However the unseeded Brits were unable to take to the court, and handed the win to Broom & Jones who took the title 0-0 (RET).
