Tennis | ITF Nottingham | Jodie Burrage & Billy Harris made Semi-final

  • Both Brits lost to eventual winner
NOTTINGHAM, UK – Jodie Burrage was the top seed in Nottingham and Billy Harris was fifth seed. Both Brits made the semi-final and went out to the eventual winner.

Jodie Burrage was the top seed in Nottingham, in the first round she drew young Brit Ranah Stoiber. The 16 year old had been given a wildcard into the main draw. In the first set Burrage dominated as Stoiber struggled to get into the game. However, the second set was much closer, with the 16 year old staying with Burrage for most of the set. One break of serve is all that Burrage needed at the end of the set though to get the win and move into the next round 6-2, 7-5.

The second round saw Burrage against Anna Brogan. The first set was very close, as both players stayed toe to toe. However, Burrage secured the break of serve to seal the set and move into the lead. In the second set both players once again stayed close, with Burrage eventually getting the break of sereve to move into the next round 7-5, 6-4.

In the quarter-final Burrage was against fifth seed Urszula Radwanska. The Brit dominated the first set, with the Pole struggling to hold serve. The second set proved closer as Radwanska forced a tiebreak. In the breaker it was the Pole who dominated and levelled up the match. The final set saw the pair go toe to toe, until Burrage managed to secure the vital break of serve and get the win to move into the semi-final 6-1, 6-7(1), 6-4.

The semi-final saw Burrage against Eudice Chong. The Hongkonger proved too strong from Burrage. Although the set was close, the Brit was broken and Chong took the lead. The second set was much the same, although Burrage fought hard, it was Chong who once again secured the break of serve and took the match 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles

Eden Silva teamed up with Lara Salden and were the second seeds. The Brit/Belgian faced wildcard pair of Danielle Daly & Eliz Maloney. The Brits stayed very close to the seeds, however, eventually Silva & Salden broke to take the lead. The second set saw the second seeds break early and didn’t look back. Silva & Salden took the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

The quarter-final saw the Brit/Belgian against Yeonwoo Ku & Sofia Sewing. Silva & Salden secured an early break of serve and took the first set. The second was a little closer as the Korean/American tried to get back into the match, however the second seeds broke again to move into the semi-final 6-3, 6-4.

In the semi-final the Brit/Belgian were against fourth seeds Isabelle Haverlag & Ioana Loredana Rosca. The first set was very close, with Haverlag & Rosca getting the break right at the end of the set. The second set saw the Brit/Belgian break fourth seeds and levelled up the match. The final set was a match tiebreak. Silva & Salden were edged out by the fourth seeds 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

Men’s draw

Billy Harris was the fifth seed and his first round match was against wild card Luca Pow. The young Brit played well, however Harris managed to secure the break of serve and take the lead. The second set saw Pow stay with Harris at the start. Eventually, the seed broke again and sealed the win in straight sets to move into the next round 6-4, 6-3.

In the second round Harris was against David Jorda Sanchis. The Spaniard was unable to stay with Harris in the first set, as the Brit broke and took the first set. The second set was much closer. Sanchis stayed toe to toe with Harris, before the seed managed to break right at the end of the set and moved into the next round 6-4, 7-5.

The quarter-final saw Harris against fourth seed Alastair Gray. The fourth seed stayed close to Harris and it looked to be heading to a tiebreak, but Gray secured the break of serve to move ahead. Harris re-grouped in the second set and totally dominated Gray. The fifth seed didn’t drop a game and levelled up the match. The final set saw Harris dominate again and move into the semi-final 5-7, 6-0, 6-2.

In the semi-final Harris was against second seed Hiroki Moriya. The Japanese dominated the first set, breaking the Brit at will to take the lead. The second set however, saw the fifth seed fight back. Breaking Moriya to level up the match. In the final set the Brit and Japanese fought hard, eventually though it was Moriya who broke serve to take the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Nottingham Round Up

Danielle Daly was defeated by Anna Brogan in the first round 7-5, 6-4.

Talia Neilson Gatenby was defeated by Eudice Chong in the first round 7-5, 7-5.

Eliz Maloney was defeated by Mona Barthel in the first round 7-5, 7-5.

Jasmine Conway was defeated by Katarina Stresnakova in the first round 6-3, 6-4.

Emma Wilson was defeated by Alexandra Vecic in the first round 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Alice Gillan was defeated by Joanna Garland in the first round 6-0, 6-4.

Lauryn John-Baptiste was defeated by Jana Fett in the first round 6-1, 6-4.

Joshua Paris was defeated by Antoine Escoffier in the first round 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Giles Hussey was defeated by Henry Patten in the first round 6-3, 6-2.

Michael Shaw was defeated by Ruben Bemelmans in the first round 7-6(6), 6-3.

William Jansen was defeated by Daniel Little in the first round 6-4, 6-4.

Fabio Nestola was defeated by David Jorda Sanchis in the first round 6-4, 6-0.

Mark Whitehouse was defeated by Daniel Cox in the first round 6-2, 6-0.

Louis Bowden was defeated by Oscar Weightman in the first round 6-4, 6-2.

Sean Hodkin was defeated by Hiroki Moriya in the first round 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Anton Matusevich was defeated by Henry Patten in the second round 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Daniel Little was defeated by Ruben Bemelmans in the second round 6-4, 6-4.

Jan Choinski was defeated by Charles Broom in the second round 7-6(5), 5-7, 7-6(2).

Daniel Cox was defeated by Alastair Gray in the second round 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Oscar Weightman was defeated by Hiroki Moriya in the second round 6-2, 6-1.

Eden Silva was defeated by Urszula Radwanska in the second round 6-3, 6-0.

Freya Christie with Adrienn Nagy were defeaeted by Eudice Chong & Hong Yi Cody Wong in the quarter-final 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.

Liam Hignett & James MacKinley were defeated by Stuart Parker & Filip Peliwo in the quarter-final 6-3, 6-4.

Billy Blaydes & Louis Bowden were defeated by Anirudh Chandraesekar & N Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the quarter-final 6-4, 6-2.

Anton Matusevich & Joshua Paris were defeated by Julian Cash & Henry Patten in the quarter-final 6-1, 6-2.

Stuart Parker with Filip Peliwo were defeated by Anirudh Chandraesekar & N Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the semi-final 6-4, 6-2.

Julian Cash & Henry Patten were defeated by Ruben Bemelmans & Joris de Loore in the semi-final 6-4, 6-7(8), 12-10.
