GLASGOW, UK – Yuriko Lily Miyazaki entered the ITF event and was unseeded. The Brit defeated the top seed, third and fourth seeds en route to the title. Aidan McHugh was the top seed and dropped only one set en route to the title.

Yuriko Lily Miyazaki entered the ITF event and was unseeded. The Brit was against Wildcard Anna Brogan in the first round. Miyazaki and Brogan stayed close in the first set, before Miyazaki secured the vital break of serve to move ahead. In the second set, Brogan fought back and managed to break serve of Miyazaki to level up the match. The final set saw Miyazaki dominate Brogan, who struggled to stay with the higher ranked player. Miyazaki moved into the next round 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

The second round saw Miyazaki against top seed Katie Swan. The top seed started well and broke Miyazaki and took the lead. Miyazaki re-grouped in the second set, and secured a vital break of serve against the Swan serve to draw the match level. The final set saw Miyazaki dominate Swan, who could not get a handle on the unseeded Brit serve. Miyazaki moved into the next round 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against qualifier Julie Belgraver. The Frenchwomen stayed close to the Brit at the start, however, with Miyazaki ahead, Belgraver unfortunately had to pull out of the match. This gave the Brit a spot in the semi-final 5-4 (RET).

The semi-final pitched Miyazaki against the third seed Jodie Burrage. The unseeded Brit got the better start and broke Burrage to take the lead. The seed re-grouped in the second set and fought hard. With neither player getting the vital break the match went to a tiebreak. In the breaker Miyazaki edged through and made the final in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4).

In the final Miyazaki was against fourth seed Heather Watson. The fourth seed secured the vital break of serve in the first set and took the lead. In the second set Watson stormed out to a very good lead, and was serving for the match. However, the non seeded Brit managed to break several times and force a tiebreak. In the breaker Miyazaki edged through to level up the match. The final set saw Watson outclassed by Miyazaki who dominated and took the title 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-2.

Men’s Event

Aidan McHugh was the top seed in the men’s event. In the first round the Brit was against Buvaysar Gadamuri. The Belgian stayed with the Brit at the start of the first set. Eventually, though, McHugh secured the break of serve and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit dominate Gadamuri and move into the second round 6-4, 6-2.

The second round saw McHugh against fellow Brit Harry Wendelken. The top seed dominated the first set from the start, as Wendelken struggled to hold serve. McHugh took the first set easily. Wendelken played better in the second set, however, McHugh secured the vital break of serve and took the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

In the quarter-final the top seed was against Arthur Fery. McHugh again dominated the first set as Fery was unable to get into the match. The second set was closer, Fery played much better and McHugh had to fight hard to get the break of serve, but moved into the next round in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

The semi-final saw McHugh against Wildcard Giles Hussey. Hussey got the jump on the top seed in the first set, breaking to take the set. McHugh re-grouped in the second and dominated to level up the match. The final set was very to and fro, as neither McHugh or Hussey would give in. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued and it was the top seed that eased through and into the final 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(3).

In the final, McHugh was against second seed Filip Peliwo. The Pole stayed with the Brit in the first set forcing a tiebreak. In the breaker it was the Brit who edged ahead and took the lead. The second set was close too with both fighting hard. However, the Brit eventually secured the break of serve against Peliwo and took the title 7-6(4), 6-4.

Doubles

Freya Christie & Ali Collins were the top seeds in the doubles and as such received a bye into the next round. The quarter-final Christie & Collins were against Nefisa Berberovic & Martyna Kubka. The Brits were made to fight hard in the first set, and secured the vital break of serve right at the end to take the lead. The second set saw Berberovic & Kubka break the Brits serve and level up the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak the Brits edged ahead and took the match 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.

The semi-final saw Christie & Collins against Emily Appleton & Yuriko Lily Miyazaki. The top seeds broke right at the end of the first set and took the lead. The second set saw Appleton & Miyazaki broke at the end of the second set to level the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak the top seeds eased through to book a spot in the final 7-5, 5-7, 10-4.

In the final Christie & Collins took on Irene Burillo Escorihuela & Andrea Lazaro Garcia. The first set was close with the Spaniards staying with the Brits. Eventually, the top seeds made the breakthrough and took the lead. The second set saw the Brits dominate, as the Spaniards struggled to hold serve. Christie & Collins lifted the trophy 6-4, 6-1.

Giles Hussey teamed up with Daniel Cukierman and were the top seeds. This gave the Brit/Israeli a bye in the first round. In the quarter-final the top seeds were against Jonathan Binding & Sean Hodkin. The unseeded Brits got a jump on Hussey & Cukierman and dominated the first set. In the second set the top seeds fought back, breaking Binding & Hodkin to level the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak the Brit/Isreali edged through into the next round 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.

The semi-final saw the top seeds against Harry Wendelken & Benjamin Hannestad. The top seeds were forced into a tiebreak in the first set by the Brit/Dane. Hussey & Cukierman dominated the breaker and took the lead. The second set saw the top seeds break early and take the match in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-3.

In the final the top seeds were against unseeded Brits Joshua Paris & Anton Matusevich. The unseeded pair forced a tiebreak in the first set, which Paris & Matusevich eased through to take the lead. The second set saw the top seeds break to level up the match. The ensuing final match tiebreak saw Hussey & Cukierman edged through and lifted the title 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-8.

Glasgow Round Up

Ella McDonald was defeated by Nefisa Berberovic in the first round 6-1, 6-4.

Jasmine Conway was defeated by Armani Banks in the first round 6-3, 6-2.

Freya Christie was defeated by Nigina Abduraimova in the first round 6-3, 6-1.

Eliz Maloney was defeated by Maia Lumsden in the first round 7-5, 6-2.

Ben Jones was defeated by Patrick Brady in the first round 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Michael Shaw was defeated by Giles Hussey in the first round 6-3, 7-6(5).

Millen Hurrion was defeated by Christian Sigsgaard in the first round 5-1 (RET).

James Davis was defeated by Anton Matusevich in the first round 7-5, 6-2.

Billy Blaydes was defeated by Sean Hodkin in the first round 7-6(9), 6-2.

Armani Banks was defeated by Jodie Burrage in the second round 6-4, 6-3.

Emily Appleton was defeated by Aliona Bolsova in the second round 7-5, 6-3.

Talia Neilson Gatenby was defeated by Heather Watson in the second round 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2.

Maia Lumsden was defeated by Nigina Abduraimova in the second round 2-6, 6-2, 4-1 (RET).

Daniel Cox was defeated by Arthur Fery in the second round 6-4, 6-4.

Joe Tyler was defeated by George Loffhagen in the second round 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Sean Hodkin was defeated by Filip Peliwo in the second round 6-1, 6-4.

Katie Boulter was defeated by Nigina Abduraimova in the quarter-final 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4.

Patrick Brady was defeated by Giles Hussey in the quarter-final 6-3, 6-1.

Anton Matusevich was defeated by Filip Peliwo in the quarter-final 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

George Loffhagen was defeated by Filip Peliwo in the semi-final 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6).

Amelia Stuart & Ellie Tsimbilakis were defeated by Emily Appleton & Yuriko Lily Miyazaki in the first round 6-0, 6-1.

Adeola Greatorex & Jessica Matthews were defeated by Abigail Amos & Laura Svatikova in the first round 6-1, 6-2.

Eliz Maloney & Emma Wilson were defeated by Jodie Burrage & Heather Watson in the first round 6-1, 6-4.

James Davis & Millen Hurrion were defeated by Jonathan Binding & Sean Hodkin in the first round 6-7(5), 6-1, 12-10.
