Brit of the Week

Aidan McHugh entered the ITF event in Meshref and was seeded fifth. The Brit looked to end the season on a high with another trophy. In the first round the Brit was drawn against Kevion Tabrizi. The Swiss was of no match for the fifth seed with McHugh dominating the match. The Brit moved into the second round for the loss of only two games 6-2, 6-0.

In the second round McHugh was up against Dhruv Sunish. The Indian could not match the Brit in either set and was outplayed in every way. McHugh broke at will and was in control from the outset, losing only two games all match to move into the quarter-final 6-1, 6-1.

The quarter-final saw the fifth seed play Roy De Valk. The Dutchman struggled to get to grips with McHugh in the first set. The Brit dominated the first set, restricting De Valk to only one game. In the second set the Dutchman fought back, managing to hold serve more. The fifth seed eventually secured the break of serve needed and moved into the semi-final 6-1, 6-4.

In the semi-final McHugh played the sixth seed Julian Ocleppo. The Italian kept toe to toe with the fifth seed in the first set, and a tiebreak looked to be on the cards. However, the Brit was not having this and broke right at the end of the set to take the lead. This seemed to break Ocleppo as the fifth seed once again dominated and lost only one game to move into the final 7-5, 6-1.

The final saw the fifth seed against the second seed Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine. The Frenchman although the higher ranked could not get a handle on the Brit and lost the first set quickly. In the second set Bittoun Kouzmine managed to get more games on the board, but it was the Brit who ultimately came through to lift the title 6-1, 6-3.
