ANTALYA, TURKEY – Francesca Jones progressed to the semi-final in Turkey. The Brits great run was ended by the seventh seed.

Brit of the Week

Francesca Jones had entered the ITF event in Antalya, Turkey. The Brit was the top seed. In the first round Jones was drawn against Diana Mihail. The Romanian could not cope with Jones game with the Brit breaking twice to claim the set. In the second set Mihail was outplayed completely as the Brit didn’t lose a game, moving into the next round in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

The second round saw Jones playing Alessia Tagliente, the Italian fought hard in the first set and was unable to prevent the top seed from breaking. The Brit had soon claimed the first set. The second set saw the Italian totally dominated by Jones, with the top seed breaking early and losing only one game to move into the quarter-final 6-3, 6-1.

In the quarter-final the Brit was up against the eighth seed Vanda Lukács. The Hungarian proved to be the trickiest opponent to date for Jones. Lukács struggled in the first set to get a handle on the top seeds game, with Jones breaking to take the lead.

However, in the second set the Hungarian fought back well and successfully managed to break Jones to level up. The third set saw Jones re-group and fight back, getting back on top by breaking serve again. The top seed secured the win and booked the place in the semi-final 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

In the semi-final the top seed was against seventh seed İpek Öz. The Turk got off to a great start, breaking Jones early. The Brit was not able to recover and the set was gone. In the second the top seed re-grouped finally securing a break of serve at the end to level the match. The final set was totally dominated by the Turk as Jones could not get into the games and eventually succumbed 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.

James Ward was defeated by Gianluca Mager in the second round in Koblenz 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Anton Matusevich was defeated by Artem Dubrivnyy in the quarter-final in Bressuire 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Emily Appleton was defeated by Natalija Kostić in the first round in Guadeloupe 7-6(2), 7-5.

Jodie Burrage was defeated by Alizé Lim in the quarter-final in Guadeloupe 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(6).

Adian McHugh was defeated by Emiliano Maggioli in the first round in Tunisia 6-4, 7-6(3).

Jonathan Gray was defeated by Maxim Ratniuk in the first round in Tunisia 6-1, 6-3.

Julian Cash was defeated by Zhang Zhizhen in the second round in Tunisia 7-5, 7-5.

Naomi Broady was defeated by Nefisa Berberović in the first round in Singapore 6-2, 6-3.
